"Cheating DAYS"
Discussion
Depends what you mean by "blow out". 20,000 calorie binge eat? Moderately over what your daily goal is?
The latter is supposedly to stop your metabolism slowing down; plus it's good for your motivation knowing you can eat the st you like if you fancy it. The toughest bit about full on diets is cutting out.

I do it every week, not because I need it but because I like doing it! If you do the right thing 85% plus of the time you should be fine unless your goal is less than 10% body fat.
Yesterday it was pizza and cider!
It will slow down weight loss and it isn't required but I don't mind slower results in return for more living!

+1. I eat healthily in the week and don't drink alcohol, but come weekend, I eat and drink what I want. Combine that with exercise, and I'm where I want to be!Yesterday it was pizza and cider!

There's no hard and fast rule.
I tried having planned cheat days, but they were a disaster. I would binge like a mofo and eat way too much food.
So now I don't plan them, I just let loose a bit on social occasions. I've come to the conclusion that for me, home based cheat meals, where I buy bad food and basically binge, are a terrible idea.
I also think it's good to mix in a little bit of bad food into your daily diet. Say no more than 200 cals per day. But it teaches you to control your eating when you have a free choice.

Cheat days doesn't mean do a crazy-arsed binge.
It's not supposed to, but when you follow a strict diet, your body goes into a "starvation" type psychological state. When you let that slip, you can adopt "hoarding" mental state, where you binge to store up on food for another anticipated "shortage". Anyone who has the self control to have 1 day off a week and not go mental has my respect. But I've got enough personal experience, and spoken to enough people about it to know that going mental on cheat days is really common. I think most people will mess it up at first - it doesn't really matter. You just find what works for you in the end.
Cheat days is essential as a means of reward for eating clean. I've gone from 15% bodyfat to 6% since Aug '11 and I eat very clean everyday but be a bit more relaxed eating some of the things I want at the weekend. It keeps you from going crazy being 100% strict with your eating regime plus you've got to live a little.
Obviously not to go and stuff 2 pizzas and eat a curry + 6 nan breads followed by 8 beers as a reward.

I know what is going on. You still need to not binge. It's not difficult.Anyone who has the self control to have 1 day off a week and not go mental has my respect. Edit: if you do find it difficult, then you need to dig deeper and work out why. I have cheat days when I visit my family or go out with friends. I'm still trying to maintain a calorie deficit overall, though.
Edit 2: I mean, if I can go from 10 packets of crisps a day to 1 a fortnight...
