Looking at booking a cheap weekend in Amsterdam from 9th/10th November until the 11th/12th for 7 people. Anyone know any good websites or companies that specialize in this sort of thing and can give us a good price? Ideally looking for a hotel near the city centre so we are within walking distance of all the main attractions. Were looking to fly from the Midlands area and the best price im getting at the moment is around 175pp for 2 nights in a 4* hotel (Die Port van Cleve). That sound reasonable or can it be beaten?

Cheers,

Mark

You are probably just as well organising it all yourself. I was in Zandvoort at the weekend, and flew Luton to Schiphol, then train to Zandvoort (about 40 minutes). If you aren't going far from the city centre you don't need a car, and the trains are cheap and frequent (every 6 minutes I think from Schiphol to Amsterdam Central, about a 20 minute journey and about 4 Euros). You can fly to Amsterdam from just about anywhere in the UK, so whatever suits your location and budget!

Booking.com is decent for hotels/

As above, sort it yourself, it's much cheaper. Links from schipol to Dam Centraal are every 15 minutes and reasonably cheap. There are loads of cheap hotels in the city centre.

Things like sampling the jenevar bars are practically free as you're just paying for the drink. Also worth a wander round the Jordaan area as it's very scenic, loads of canals, loads of trendy shops and is the heart of the city. A wander round the red light area is also safe in the main busy streets, very fun and very lively as well as being free. Great for people spotting.

Also worth sitting in one of the main squares like the leidseplien, nursing a beer and a coffee and watch the world go by.

Neither of the main museums are prohibitively expensive (reiksmuseum and the van gogh museum) and definitely worth seeing, especially if it's wet.
