Croatia - 1 week - hire car or not??

Calling all croatia experts (or even just people that have been)...

We've got a week booked in early september, flying into/out of Dubrovnik.

We are thinking of staying on Korcula.

Is it worth hiring a car?

we'll want to spend most of the days finding nice coves & beaches for some snorkelling etc, with the odd day trip posibly to other islands or towns etc....

Any other suggestions for hte best way to spend a week in southern dalmatia greatfully recieved.

Yes.

Check out Hvar island. Awesome awesome place to stay.
Check out the hinterland of Croatia aswell. Brilliant, stark scenary and the national parks.

Fully recommend a hire car. Oh and DONT walk Dubrovnik walls in the afternoon. You will die of heatstroke!

We loved Croatia, I have wanted to go to Dubrovnik ever since I first heard of the place. Dont mention the bloody war though...esp in Dubrovnik, its still a very very sore point!

we're booked for a week's stay on Korcula, with a night in Dubrovnik at the end...
will be getting a car so we can get around a bit too....
