Vintage Morris engine gone pop
Discussion
Our friend uses a Morris ex ambulance of 1967 vintage for selling cream ices at events / shows. The engine seems to have seized and may need replacing. Any leads to a good and quick repair or exchange engine by a garage or mobile mechanic. The area of the vehicle is Stowmarket, near Bury St Edmunds.

Apparently quite rare.
1. Buy recond MGB/Midget engine
2. Get MGB/Midget engine specialist to rebuild the engine in the van (if it's salvageable)
The 1622 was on of the last guises of the B series engines lots were made but I would think any thing new is long gone ,obvious replacements are B series engine but not MGB spec you require the low comp type to pull a heavy lump like that around any thing tuned would be an embarrasment. The diesel brother to it would work , but a straight forward recon would be my take , Midget and A series types would be hard pushed and need a g/box change too . Austin Cambridge Morris Oxford forum may be worth a look , I did a 6 year apprenticeship on this sort of stuff in the late sixties and as you say that vehicle was rare then so it certainly must be now hth

1622 is an unusual size, you could probably do one of the following:
1. Buy recond MGB/Midget engine
2. Get MGB/Midget engine specialist to rebuild the engine in the van (if it's salvageable)
It shouldn't be that unusual a size as it was used in a lot of cars and vans from 1962 on. I don't know where you might get one though although there are specialists for the MGB who will sell you a 1800. Midget is an A series (or Triumph 1500) so no good for you.1. Buy recond MGB/Midget engine

Stand corrected, always assumed the 1500 was a B-series.PoleDriver said:
It would be a very easy job to strip down, send crankshaft and block off to machine shop for regrind/rebore then re-assemble with new rings/shells/valve grind etc.
'B' Series engines really are easy to work on!
Thanks for input and discussion, the engine is now out and off to Scholar Engineering for 'a bit of work'. I will post up results later when the job is finished.'B' Series engines really are easy to work on!

It was the engine from the Spitfire.
The Spitfire engine had nothing to do with the BMC engines it was wholly Triumph streched from the Herld etc the BMC B series was orig 1498 whant to 1622 and can be bored stroked out to around 2.1 or so but its an expensive job !!!one eyed mick said:

The 1500 engine in the MG Midget was the same basic lump used in the final version of Triumph Spitfire, exactly as williredale says. It has no relation to the B series as others have pointed out.Mr2Mike said:
