Self build finance on an old pile

Having given Buildstore a couple of plugs, I'm getting mighty jarred off with how long our mortgage stuff is taking to come through. I don't think it's Buildstore, more likely it's the lender but this has been going on now for months (like, literally).

Every time I send them what they want, they ask for something else. It's not like we're asking for the world so we're not being unrealistic. Has anyone got any experiences with self build or renovation finance in recent months, or should we just ditch this one (best fixed rate) and try for another? I suspect I'm going to write some irate emails tomorrow (but press delete instead of send - had to do it many a time with the planners!)
