Ordered and paid for a Honda Izy lawnmower last Saturday. It arrived today (Wednesday). Now filling in the 3-year warranty card. It asks for the date pf purchase.

I'm thinking I want to put today's date on there, rather than last Saturday's, otherwise it feels like I'm losing out on four days of warranty.

Not that I'm expecting it to go wrong. It is a Honda, after all. But the general question is interesting, what with more people buying stuff on tinternet these days and manufacturers being increasingly sticky on warranty expiration dates.

Anybody know the legal position? I reckon I'm entitled to claim I don't physically own it till I receive it, especially bearing in mind the fact that any damage caused in transit between the supplier and me would be covered by the supplier.

If the transaction is covered under the Distance Selling Regs then the warranty would be from the point where the item is received by you.
If you went in to the shop and paid for it there then the warranty is from that point.
