Spotted a Fisher and Paykel gas hob that I like the look of. I'd always assumed these were decent quality as i'd only ever seen them in John Lewis.

Searching to compare prices it looks as though both Currys and Comet both sell them, does this mean they're not the high end/quality brand I'd assumed they are?

Fisher and Paykel.

New Zealand's most trusted whiteware brand.

Made in NZ - should be good quality.

Not sure theres much F&P manufacturing left in NZ, but yes they are decent quality - though I've never owned any of it I've used some.

Decent stuff, we have their top of the range fridge/freezer at home. It easily tops everything apart from miele

In my experoence Fisher Paykel Is style over function and not very reliable. This is experience of a fridge freezer and dishwasher both of which were faulty from new. Look lovely but quite troublesome.

I fitted their dishdrawer dishwashers when they first came to this country and every single one failed, either right out of the box or within a couple of months.
Several years later one of the reps assured me that they had sorted out all the teething problems with the dishdrawer dishwashers, so I foolishly designed my own kitchen using 2 of them. Both failed within 6 months and took the best part of the rest of the year to get a service agent to get the parts to fix them. They then brokedown with the same fault within another 6 months, Fisher and Paykel then refused further survice as they were then out of warranty. They are still fitted in my kitchen but havent been used in the last 3 years due to being faulty.
I will be removing them when I remodel the kitchen in the future and certainly will never again use any Fisher and Paykel products.

Suspect they had a good brand but let it go to poo when they moved it to overseas for cheaper manufacture. Pity.

I remember being surprised when in NZ to find they had their own maker I'd never heard of.

I fitted a FP double drawer dishwasher 6 years ago and it's been Ok. One £150 fault on the most used drawer. I find it noisy and the cycle times are too long. Her indoors wanted it. I wouldn't bust a gut to install another - I think there is better kit on the market....

Yep, my findings as well. Lower draw of the double is very noisy, silly electrical faults. Daft small salt container that's awkward to fill.

Previously had Miele for 10 years - never went wrong and a far better product IMHO.

Interesting stuff, looks like I'll stick with Bosch/Neff/AEG

On another note, does anyone have a black glass gas hob and if so how does it perform?

Which? magazine claim they take longer to heat up pans?!?
