Guy following on from my previous thread about re-siting my boiler under my house, now dosent look possible as its only a crawl space and costs to excavate, create door, lintels, outside ground needs lowered a bit, its not cost effective

so ive been looking at possibilty of an external boiler....anyone used or have one??

i would probally house in it a wooden shed etc but just looking for some ideas opinions?

cheers

Hi Engineer,

We have a Worcester Bosch External oil-fired combi boiler.

Its been OK but I would get it installed by an approved installer so you can take advantage of the extended warranty if needs be.

I think I put a link to the boiler on your previous thread.

Cheers!

Worcester Bosch wouldn't issue a service contract on my next-door neighbours boiler as their repairman said it was outside even though it's actually where the oil storage tank used to be and it set into the house. His complaint was he nowhere to put his tools down in the rain!

A lot of combi's are put in airing cupboards (as the hot water tank is taken away) or in lofts (but it's supposed to be boarded etc).

We have got our Worcester-Bosch boiler in our coal house (brick build backing onto the house). The fitter advised us we had 3 choices of location, the airing cupboard (in the main bedroom), the coal house or in the loft. To go in the loft it would have had to be easily accessible for servicing, we weren't too keen on it being in the bedroom, so it went in the coal house.

The fellas that service mine must think its great.

Even though its a purpose-built external boiler in a big insulated box, becuase of where it is located there is a nice big lean-to roof over it so they can stay nice and dry whilst they work on it; there is a double external socket about 1m away so they can even re-charge their fluegas analyser whilst they work on it, or plug in whatever else they need; if they don't have a torch and its a bit dim there are lights under the lean-to so they can see what they're doing and!!! There is an infra-red patio heater under there, so even if its cold outside, they can keep nice and toasty while they try to fix whatever is wrong with it!!

... there's boilers outside... and there's Outside Boilers...

I've fitted a few external oil boilers, but the last one that was suggested I talked them into having an ordinary boiler and building a little shed around it. Loads better.

Hi guys, cheers, good to see some folk have them fitted,
im ruling out more or less any other location in my house apart from the kitchen, and keeping it in the kitchen means ive got to keep the chimmney etc and it really takes up a lot of space.

ive a worcester 15/19 oil boiler just now would ideally like a condensing one so i can get rid of all the tanks, hot water usage in the house is very low anyhow.

ive space in a corner of my front garden was thinking i could build a small wooden shed to house boiler etc, mainly to make it look better but also live in shetland so would keep out a lot of sea salt air etc

any real difference in an external boiler compared with a normal one? except the price!

cheers
