good evening to all.
is there any one that could shed some light on blanking of the egr valve, we have audi 1.9 tdi 130 bhp on a 52 plate, the question is by blanking it of does it make any diffrence to the car, power, tourqe etc, or is it just a waste of time, I see there very cheap or could even make one, any advice welcome many thanks Tim

I would be interested too, not because I own a diesel but because I see a lot of people on the Volvo forums recommending doing it, citing better fuel consumption.

I'm told that blanking the EGR valve off prevents excess exhaust gases from pumping around the engine as eventually it can cause all the internals to become blocked and then have an effect on power, economy and responsiveness. We blanked the EGR off on our Shogun and you can feel the extra responsiveness there when you put your foot down but I'm not too sure about fuel economy as it never gets used properly so cannot really tell.

I was having EGR issues on my own Corsa CDTI and was going to blank it off but have now opted for a remap with EGR delete so that the EGR is fully inactive as sometimes blanking plates can cause engine lights to come on. I did clean out the EGR and inlet manifold and it was amazing to see how constricted the manifold was due to the soot build up. After the cleaning the car pulls a lot better even on a standard map and fuel economy has also increased

As I have actually seen what the EGR has done I would definitely recommend getting it blanked off or see if you can have the ECU mapped to delete the EGR

Blanked my Mazda Bongo camper EGR off, some guys remove all the EGR gubbins.
The engine is a WL-T 2.5 as used in the Ford ranger and is not a common rail diesel
Better fuel consumption & less "coal"smoke out of the exhaust too.....how it works with a common rail I cant say

Was talking with a mate about doing this to mine (Octavia 1.9 TDi 130).

Planning on doing an EGR delete.

I blanked mine off and achieved smoother power delivery. Doubt there was any more power and torque though. MPG actually decreased for me due to extended engine warm-up period.

Because it's recycling exhaust gasses, it gets clogged which restricts airflow... like this one from a Volvo...

So if yours looks like this you will definitely see an improvement. Bear in mind that this will be the worst part, i.e. where the gasses enter the intake system, but there will be sludge build-up throughout the air intake system from that point...

Presumably the EGR is there to reduce emissions so will it fail MOT when blanked/ mapped deleted?

We had a Pug 307 HDI 90 that got so clogged up it struggled to pull away from a stand still. Blanked the EGR valve and it immediately drove ok. Always thought that short journeys blocked them up, this car was doing 140 miles a day..

Blanked the EGR on my mk4 golf a couple of years a go, no problems or fault codes since.

It is designed to reduce NOX emissions, but the only thing tested in the UK is the smoke level, not the emissions.

False, so long as you don't get a warning light on the dash.

EGRs can help the engine warm up faster which is going to be an advantage heading into winter. The mess they can make of an intake manifold and subsequent ports is pretty nasty though, they can become clogged with black soot which I imagine has a negative effect on performance.

I fitted an egr blank to my Focus TDCi 1.8 with relative ease but didn't notice a difference, but then I didn't keep the car long enough. I naturally bought one for my 2.0 HDi 306 but access to the actual valve is somewhat non-existent, or it will certainly result in swearing and grazed knuckles...

Hope its easier than our 307. Had to strip the scuttle right back exposing the windscreen edge. (Yep you guessed it, I nicked the edge and cracked the screen) Even then access is almost none existent..

Hi,

I have the same engine in the same car. PD130. It's quite straightforward to blank it off, I did it around 7 months ago, had no issues since. It does take short while longer to warm up, but not an issue.

I wouldn't recommend DIYing it, I tried this previously.

You'll need this

+ a 59mm 90 deg silicone hose and some t bolt jubilee clips.

Maintenance free after fitting!
