Mrs Q has a Citroen C1 on lease which is due to go back in 5 months. However, it requires new front tyres but as she will now be commuting to Sheffield over those 5 (winter) months, I would like to get some winter tyres for it. The thing is, will I be able to hand it back with them on, or would I need to get some summer/all season tyres back on? I can't find anything in the terms that specifically mentions tyres.

Secondly, the recent service noted uneven wear/corrosion across the rear surface of the brake disc. I was quoted £270 for replacing them, but I can get replacement discs and pads (Brembo, so not ebay specials) for around £70 and then fit myself. I know technically this would breach the terms of the lease, but I can't believe they would go as far as removing the wheels to check parts before accepting the car back. Has anyone else done this or changed other parts for non-OEM before returning a lease car?

I assume from your post that maintenance is NOT part of your lease, so the tyres might be an issue - by April they probably aren't as appropriate as they would be in mid February - you need to check with your lessor and, if they say it is OK, get it confirmed in writing.

Service parts that are equivalent to OEM quality are fine, but fitting by you may not be. Again, you will have to refer to the Agreement which will probably contain a clause to the effect that maintenance is to be performed by a suitably qualified contractor.

Swapping out something like the factory stereo or front seats for Halfords cheapie is never acceptable. Of course, re-fitting the originals prior to return would make it OK if you had the lessor's prior permission but you need to be aware of any insurance implications.
