Came across this in the local news earlier. Keep your eyes open, fingers crossed it'll get rapidly recovered and returned to the owner.

Couldn't work out what actual model had been stolen from the article.

That can't be random - how on earth would you shift it on? Surely it will have been stolen to order & shipped abroad frown

Maybe broken for parts?

The sum of the parts if not exceeds the car value as a whole will certainly make a tidy sum if disposed of properly and this method is relatively independent of overall car condition. Also easier to shift with less risk to the Tea Leaf.

So how is the rebuild of your car coming on biggrin

As with all the others I hope he gets caught and then dealt with.

Bloody good reason to save your money and spend it on security that works.

Trackers are a waste of space, time and money except when dealing with the most stupid thief.

A GSM signal blocker prevents the tracker phoning home and a GPS jammer prevents the car working out where it is, just in case the GSM signal gets through. Cost to you of each is about £200 on ebay.

Simply steal the car, jam GSM and GPS and then park it up somewhere quiet for 72 hours. If it's still there after 72 hours then the cops have no idea where it is. Drive it into a metal box and ship it wherever you like.

How many trackers use VHF rather than GSM? And how hard is blocking that?

My friendly police officer is a long way from where I am so I'm not going to be able to ask him.

I dont agree with this view as Tracker has a 90% sucess rate in returning cars......i quote from their website

"In 2010 the number of car thefts involving keys rose to 84% (from 74% in 2008) showing the increasing sophistication of car criminals. TRACKER offers a range of car tracking solutions that protect your vehicle in the event of a theft, and we're proud to say that over 90% of stolen vehicles fitted with a TRACKER are returned to their owner, and 80% of these are recovered within 24 hours"

One of my friendly policemen friends told me that they also stick them inside refrigerated vans and the tracker signal cannot get out?? Not sure if this is true but i suppose any lead lined box would be good enough?

I was worried about mine being stolen when i purchased it as its not kept at home so kind of out of sight. I had my local CID guys come round and rig my security so that it was as good as it could be without being illegal and risking prosecution should some numpty attempt to get in and end up worse for wears! ... They have some very neat ideas incorporated into it too smile

On top of the basic monitored alarm, monitored cctv and the neat tricks they rigged for me, I also had a sound and light barrier put in, it blinds idiots for a short while and makes their head and ears hurt like hell. It is VERY unpleasant if they get in.. saying that, the idea is to stop them getting in at all.

To be honest though, whatever you do, no matter how good, if someone really wants it, they will get in and take it.

'Tracker' trackers, I believe, use both (and some GPS too) (although I don't know the VHF signal is turned on in event of a stolen report. Probably by GSM rolleyes ).

This sounds good smile Just hope that you don't set the alarm off by mistake. I read another thread recently where an F430 Race Car was stolen inside a trailer...seems no car is safe from theives these days, especially BMW's!

Just checking you don't know me or where I live or anything like that ....?

I think you're right though, who would buy that 5 in England? It's got to be abroad or in parts by now ....
