As I sat at home on Saturday night, iPad in my hands browsing the world wide web, with my OH swearing at wannabe popstars on Xfactor, I asked myself this question...

'If I had to run three cars from one decade, what decade would I choose and what cars would I choose'.

I quickly decided the 90's suited me best and set out to find these cars. The cars would be a sensible mix, a do everything car, a weekend away/ fun car for me and a car for my OH.

I'd keep our 1990 Mk1 Golf and her indoors could use that (as she does now anyway), I'd get the best E36 M3 I could afford and then I'd find an RS2 as the do everything/family vehicle.

I just love 90's cars, I was born 1990 so I guess it is what I grew up seeing.

So, pick a decade and pick the cars...

ETA: I know we get this sort of thing all the time, but it's just nice to look at peoples varying opinions and then discuss the changes in design/technology over the years.

80's
Already have a Pug 205D for daily dutes (OK, mine was made in the mid-90's but that's not the point).
Already have a 1985 Lotus Excel restoration project (Given to me by other half's mum)
Said other half wants a Mk2 Scirocco (in white. Has to be white)

Tough to choose between the sixties and nineties. Swaying towards the sixties just for the 250LM.

chosing the decade is hard. I want to go for the 1980's as I want to choice the Peugeot 604, but the 1990's makes more sense.

1. Peugeot 205 GTI for fun and everyday
2. Porsche 911 C2 (993) for fun and everyday
3. Audi A2 for the family and everyday

If it was just for me, the 60s (although I'd struggle to pick three specific cars). If it was for me and the wife, the 00s.

90s for me. Reliability was reasonable, and cars hadn't quite got so fat as to spoil the fun.

Great question, with an easy answer.

Definitely 90s for me too. I was born in '82, so the 90s was when the addiction REALLY took hold.

This specific version:

And, cheating just a touch, I'd have one of these as well. Simply because my dad's mate had one and, at the age of eight, a boost guage was literally the coolest thing on the planet.

Probably 1980s. I loved the flamboyant coupes and three-box saloons.

The super cars really were super

A decade that really put rally cars on the map:

Ford threw away the mold laugh

We also witnessed some pretty fruity looking hot hatches:

And 'Turbo' became one of the most desirable words in the english language
