Window/roof seals
Discussion
Hi All
I'm starting to do all the little tidying jobs required on my 350i.
1. One of the easiest will be replacement rear hood top seal replacement. This also acts as the verticle door/window seals.
Does anyone know who sells this stuff?
2. I'm in negotiations for a set of original wheels. So question is what size tyres would you recommend?
3. When funds allow I may look for some OZ's. What do these cost and what offset can I get away with?
4. Ordered new veneers for dash. Looking forward to this one.
5. Got a dodgy front wheel bearing. Is this an easy job. Or do I require a puller and press?
6. Slow drivers widow?
7. Off side pod still slamming when turned off. Adjusted linkage last night and all level now when up and down. Off side just seems to close fast! All brackets and rubbers seem to be place.
8. Front fogs and elec mirrors not working. Not started to look at his yet.
Sorry for all the questions. But so far advice has been superb. Who knows one day I might be able to answer questions instead of keep asking them.
Went to work in the Wedge yesterday. Did about 65 miles brilliiant. Even managed to get the roof off for a midday trip down the A45 Cov Rd Who needs a stereo when you have that soundtrack. Surprisingly not that loud on the Motorway.
Bet the neighbours weren't chuffed when I tried to idle up the rd at 07:20 though.
So much more useable than my Westfield was. And still as much fun!
Cheers Karl.

- Original 15 inch take 205/60 as standard. Finding V-rated ones gets harder. Have old Bridgestones I like, but need to replace. Considering Falken and Vredestein
5. Got a dodgy front wheel bearing. Is this an easy job. Or do I require a puller and press?
- Not to difficult if you have a bit of experience. No press required, it is only a plus. Buy wheel bearing set for a granada, not cortina. They need a bit of play!, don't overtighten as it will cause issues as soon as the hub and wheel start to become hot.
6. Slow drivers widow?
- Bit of wd40 and the like in the runners can work miracles... (at least that did it for me on both windows) , otherwise rover sd1 motor and/or mechanism is what TVR used.
7. Off side pod still slamming when turned off. Adjusted linkage last night and all level now when up and down. Off side just seems to close fast! All brackets and rubbers seem to be place.
- Mine go down quite quickly as well (gravity helps I presume). Perhaps it is just faster than you expected, or you have very fit electric motors....
8. Front fogs and elec mirrors not working. Not started to look at his yet.
- Electric mirrors is very often corrosion, front fogs have not only an external earth, but are connected up internally as well of course. Earths on the TVR is for me the first thing to check and with the fog lights had to 'adapt' the internal earth as it had corroded away completely.

Hi,good to hear your getting to know your new toy!

Try these guys www.woolies-trim.co.uk
6. Slow drivers widow?
Mine has been slower than the passenger one for the last 15 years, never got any worse so I've never bothered to look at it.
7. Off side pod still slamming when turned off. Adjusted linkage last night and all level now when up and down. Off side just seems to close fast! All brackets and rubbers seem to be place.
Maybe the nearside closes slow? If that's the case the most common cause would be lower bearer in the motor needed some lube
8. Front fogs and elec mirrors not working. Not started to look at his yet.
Re Front Fogs - are you sure they don't work? Mine only come on when the headlamps are on main beam.

Pop off one of the low driving lights and with the lights up and on main beam check for voltage? Condition of the bulbs? Again check the bulbs with the continuity test with the bulb out. If bulb is good and there is no voltage present then check and clean the block connectors under the light pods, finally remove and clean the main earth usually on the passenger side suspension turret near to the PAS pump if you have one. If no voltage present check the fuses on the board first and then with the meter connected to a good earth point work your way back looking for 12v. Be systematic and you will find the fault. Some wedges seem to have been connected in series, so a fault on one light causes both to fail so a dead bulb in one will fail both, so again check bulbs and presense of voltage at the light.. Another test is to get someone to pull the light flash stalk with ignition on and lights off and see if the driving lights flash. Let us know what you find fella

As said not had a pay yet. But if you pull the light flash stork with ignition on the main light pods spring up with main beam on and drop when the storks released. Is this normal operation?

I guess you don't need to check the fuses, here's an "issue" I faced earlier last year and some lessons learnt from it As said not had a pay yet. Hi
Congratulations on your purchase, my 3rd wedge was a yellow one and it suits the car very well!
Re the OZ alloys, they are very hard to come by and likely to be expensive.
Just out of interest where did you order the veneers from, is it a full set of 3 and how much?
Many thanks

I've just bought a piece of Burr Walnut 450mm x 350mm for the centre console area. All the rest on mine is ok except a small chip on the glove box. Thought I'd try this bit before ordering any more. I'll let you know what it's like when it turns up.
It was £20 and I need to get some clear lacquer.

Hi Markhttp://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&a...
I was going to start at the fuses first. But am glad someone has pointed out where the fuses box is. As to be honest I was routing around under the drivers dash and under the bonnet looking for it. doh!
Slow window operation.... this is an old chest nut for wedges! If the window is operating then 9 times out of 10 it just needs some lubrication on the window runners between the glass and the verticial runners. I use spray silicone from time to time, spray down the channels and allow to run down. Operate a few times and the job is usually a good un. If no joy let us know

Thanks mateall Electrics now working even mirrors. With the exception of the reversing lights, which I didn't realise weren't working until today. Lamps and fuse ok so I guess it's the gearbox switch?
That will be one for next weekend. I've got to fit a replacement Turbo to an MR2 one night in the week. What a crap job that's going to be. And my wedge has to sit out side while the MR2 takes up all the room.
Started to strip the instrument panel for re-veneer. But gave up and had a can of Stella instead.
8 - The mirror electrics are the same as a period BMW. I played with used ones and settled on one new and one used. See here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=109... Grady
