Apologies if this is a pearoast, I did have a quick shufty to see if it had been posted already.

What's everyone's opinion on this tw@t then? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-...

Now this is PH so I'm not getting into an argument about speeding, but this guy is a prize d*ckhead IMO*. Bad enough that he overtakes a group of safety jacketed Learner bikers at "speeds of up to 113 mph", but his reaction when he nearly faceplants the car in front marks him down as someone who should definitely not be allowed the keys to anything more powerful than a Diesel Morris Marina.
Also I'm a bit surprised at the puff of smoke, wouldn't a 911 have ABS?

  • Is he on here, maybe.....tongue out

Those learner bikers must have been doing some serious speed themselves, given that they caught up with him so fast, or he wasn't actually doing 113mph when he passed them, or he slowed to a crawl after braking. The cloud of smoke was a bit odd.

EDIT: Just watched the speed reading at the bottom of the screen, presuming it's 113mph to 23mph as shown, in one hard stamp of the pedal, even with ABS that could get some smoke.

Well he can't drive for a start. He looks like he was taken by surprise at the insane pickup of a 911 turbo and hammered the brakes on probably only saved by the PSM.
Only positive thing I can say is reducing overtaking time is a good thing, the faster the better then, that what i do anyway.....

It looks to me like he spotted the speed camera and braked. He was nowhere near the car in front.

I thought the reaction was him noticing the scamera van? He was possibly going to over take the car as well as the bikes, until he spotted his Nemesis! I'm positive that 996 would have ABS,the smoke is probably being caused by lots of mini lock ups (which are then released).

Ps I don't see any pedestrians that are mentioned in the article?

Something like that I think too. He cleared the bikes, had plenty spool down time but for some reason, planted the brake pedal. I can only assume this risky behaviour was caused by the camera. I cannot see any other problem. Full marks to the chap for his observancy.

I wish I could reply directly to some of the ste I see online in news sites!

He overtook some learner bikers and hammered on so what? Really need to get a grip on what is serious and what is not don't we?

The road was clear, he was in a capable car, no one was killed or maimed then let it go!

What gets me about such stories is the tremendous lack of cosistency within the UK legal system.

113mph on a single carriageway passing learners on bikes and plenty of other motorists around, even pedestrians:
- 53mph over the posted limit
- banned for 6 months and £815 fine

My mate doing 122mph on a quiet motorway at 1am:
- 52mph over the posted limit
- banned for 12 months and £1500 fine

Pedestrians were on the left as the footage starts. Personally I think this one was a bit too silly, and the judgement fair.

"He added that only 10 out of 45,000 people caught speeding in Lincolnshire last year were travelling at more than 100 mph."

I am disappoint. smile

I've been caught speeding at that very location in a 911, although it was a much older 911 and at a far lesser speed than that. This road is a great driver's road, used by many bikers. Indeed, just a hundred yards beyond this photo is a meeting place where every Wednesday evening during the summer hundreds of bikers congregate.

The problem is that it has a lot of day tripper traffic who are more than happy to pootle at 45mph. Prior to this straight mile stretch it's mostly bends making overtaking difficult. You get to this stretch, pass the turning for the meeting area and there are no junctions for the rest of the arrow straight mile until you get to Market Rasen racecourse. If you've been held up by monospeeding 45mph drivers for the last 5 miles the temptation to blat past is immense - ask me how I know. I'm guessing that's why the van is parked on the straight bit and not the bends up the road where bikers throw themselves under cars and kill themselves...

The car in the video appears to be a 911 Turbo. It wouldn't take long for it to reach 113mph from 40mph. The "pedestrians" will be on the path which is behind a stretch of grass verge wide enough to park the scamera van on. You can call it dangerous if you like, but all he did was use the power of his car to perform the quickest overtake he could. Braking upon seeing the van is a natural reaction.

I think the difference may be an expensive brief!

When I was 17 I was clocked at 5am doing 122mph in a 60 mph. Same camara caught a taxi driver doing 107mph in the middle of the day. I had been driving 3 months and got 4 month ban and £800 fine, taxi driver went before me and got 7 day ban and £150 fine, is that fair?

He used an expensive brief, whose response to the judge they got amounted to "oh fk, we're screwed."

The justice system in the UK is presided over by the chosen few, who in such cases as speeding all have their own personal agendas and hatreds. This one was known to have a bee in his bonnet about speeding.

I will agree though, an expensive brief will do you wonders. The same week my mate went to trial, Ronnie O'Sullivan was done for being caught at 100mph in a 30 limit and only picked up a 2 month ban.

What car was your mate driving? 122mph in a porsche is a little MEH in terms of the porsches capability. where as 113 in say a Saxo or the like is "potentially" alot more dangerous.

Very similar reactions in both threads AFAICT. Most people saying the overtake wasn't that bad, gave the bikers enough room etc.

Hes well known around here as a complete n*b end

nice car, shame about the driver always spring to mind when i see him

He drives like that and worse all the time and in my opinion he has got off lightly

One day he will get it very wrong, but in the areas he drives he will end up taking someone else out.

Sorry about my rant

Except that whilst doing so the driver reached 79mph then slammed on the anchors when he spotted the camera van.
