One of the best motorway cars ever.

Another vote for a Volvo D5 here. S60 is the sharper looker, the S80 great value and an even better place to sit, the V70 a great all rounder but slightly pricier due to its estate car practicality. Don't let anyone that hasn't owned one talk you out of it.
I've always thought the S60 R would be a fun car - you could rocket up behind people on the motorway and laugh as they move out of the way, clearly thinking you're the police! I love how it's a *proper* sleeper.A lex said:

Honda Accord 2.2 ictdi - a rare diesel engine with no DPF which is a good thing. Can't argue with a V70 D5 though - and I think the ones which have '2.4' on the back are non-dpf models and ones with 'D5' have a dpf. If that's wrong I'm sure I'll be corrected.
Not that easy im afraid.ALL pre facelift cars are euro3 engines, badged as D5 and come with 163bhp and no DPF (MY2000-2004)
SOME facelift cars kept the old euro3 engine, were badged as D5 and came with 163bhp and no DPF (MY2004-2005)
Then Volvo upgraded then engine to meet euro4 emissions. These come with two power outputs and both had DPF fitted (MY2005-2007)
185bhp, badged as D5
163bhp, badged as 2.4D - but they are both euro4 engines.
So actually, anything badged as a 2.4D is guaranteed to have a DPF and 163 - whereas something badged as D5 it depends on the MY of the car.

Thank god for that. Just checked my 2005 V70 D5 facelift and its 120kw 160bhp on log book so no dpf
Easiest way to check is the engine cover.Black plastic = no DPF
Grey plastic = DPF and even worse the dreaded swirl arm actuator

Are they weak on D5s as well? Common problem on GM 1.9s, my Saab's were on the way out too. Good to know for when the current V70 we have blows up. Black plastic = no DPF
Grey plastic = DPF and even worse the dreaded swirl arm actuator
And for the most hassle-free mile munchers I'd say go with a Volvo as well.
