Hi,
if I wanted to fit a remote engine stop to a '12 plated Astra with the A17 DTR engine is this feasible and where should I look?

I have a copy of the TIS and have just started checking through it...is there a discrete engine "stop" wire or being common-rail will a more "elegant" solution be required?

Depends what you mean by discrete.

Simply cutting ignition power will stop the engine. Or is that not enough ?

I'm sure I could work out many ways, but simply turning the key works for me.

Works for me too but this car will be far from standard.

The engine will drive a generator in place of the transmission along with many other changes. I need to be able to stop the engine if there is a fault with the control system, cutting coil power to one of the relays seems to work but we are trying another method too because we need redundant systems to meet the safety case.

It's very easy.

You can cut main power, you can interupt the fuel pressure signal, you could interupt the crank sensor signal, or most basic of all install a mechanical diesel isolating valve close to the pump which gives you a non electrical shut off.

Or in the case of a runaway situation, although rare. Leave provision to totally shut off the air intake.

Crank position sensor will be the primary shut off with ignition interruption as back-up.

if you asssume that the engines idle speed produces a generator output voltage below that of the battery pack, then can't you just leave it idling?
