had some mice in the shed , cleaned it all up and im sure some posion or a trap can deal with the current family

my question is ..for future prevention is it worth leaving a tray of poison out incase a mouse happens to visit , or is it attractive enough that it will lure in hungry ones ?

Always found traps and peanut butter most effective. They soon get wise to poison.

Kill off the current mouse problem and then stop using the poison bait. As you mention, continued baiting will attract more in as well as cost you money and excessive use of poisons. Do keep an eye out though for any future mouse infestations.
Try to buy your poison bait from an online specialist supplier, the stuff in local shops is hopeless.
