Im not asking what people have fitted in the way of home security but apart from the obvious, external lighting with PIR Sensors, gravel to hear people outside im looking for an alarm system.

You can spend a little, or a lot.

Depends what you want to achieve and how deep your pockets are.

Make sure the physical security is up to scratch making it bloody hard for them to get in.

It is very difficult to stop determined professional who may be specifically targeting you, short of putting a titanium dome over your property, but proper physical security will deter opportunists, and make them look elsewhere in the area. (harsh on your neighbours, but a reality of life)

An alarm system is helpful, but a realistic dummy box can be as an effective deterrent as a full blown system... Particularly if all they need to get in is a chip fork
