Hello All.

I wondered if anyone could clear this up for me...

Obviously when importing from the US we must pay VAT on top of Duty etc, but I was wondering if there is a time when either one, the other, or both become non-payable in the context of the age of the item.

I am asking in the context of a boat (twin V8s as this is PH :-)) and it would be aged around 20 years or more...

I have a great clearance agent I have used in the past, so happy with that side of it, if anyone can recommend an organisation to sort hassle-free shipping from East Coast to UK (Southampton/Bristol??) please let me know....

Thanks in advance - Nick.

I am pretty sure if you can prove you have been the owner of said boat for at least six months in the states all duties are voided

Interesting - it that just the Duty element (about 6% I think) or the whole lot inc VAT?

Cheers - Nick.

So let me get this straight, you are importing a race boat to compete in the marathon series thereby avoiding import and vat duties. Is that correct? wink

Peters and May are the ones to talk to.

there are exemptions for Historic cars and motorcycles ect,so may be worth talking to a uk based shipper to discuss your options.
