What lead did you buy and what connector are you trying to plug it in to?

The three pins are Rx, Tx, and Ground so go onto pins 2, 3 and 5 of the db9 connector. I cant remember the wire colours on the 3 pin lead but one of them should be black or shield, which will be the signal ground connection. I figured out which way round the other two were by trial and error, but its so long ago I cant remember. Off the top of my head I think one was red and was Tx and the other green and was Rx but don't quote me on it.

Did you take the lid off the ECU and see if there is a db9 connector on the circuit board?

Just hack one end off the db9 lead and connect the 2,3 & 5 wires to the 3 pins as I said.

Yeah im tempted to just cut the plug off and put my own on for the hassle it is to find the correct plug, can always make a patch lead for service time..
