I'm interested- that said no car I've ever owned would fail on any of these items because I've fixed them when they became obvious.

I mentioned this a few days ago and got no replies, you would think there would be interest huh?

I am sure there will be plenty of interest when the failure rates go up :-)

It creates confusion as well though trying to explain to a customer that his car hasn't failed on a loose battery (bracket broken so not just a quick tighten up) & a knackered gearbox mount but will tomorrow isn't easy roflbanghead

MOT due next week - at least a fail if not an advisory based on that list.

Maybe worthwhile taking the shed in last week whistle

What change applies to speedo?

Well, I've got a fresh certificate, so right now I'm not too worried, thanks wink
Especially since on my car anything from that list costs about £10 and ten minutes to fix.

You have to have one now for a start! it must light up and be legible and not obviously broken.

It does not need to work because we don't road test!

Sounds like when the Italian authorities decreed that every motorcyclist must have a crash helmet. Everyone duly purchased one but the scooterists merely used them as handlebar ornaments as there was no actual requirement to wear the helmet and they lacked "style". Think that's changed now, though.

I thought it always remained an option, at the discretion of the tester?

One of my cars has a comedy diff, so always gets road tested. Fortunately the speedo works just fine.

Equally, how will seat belt pre-tensioners be tested? I don't suppose you'll be crashing the cars into a wall to see if they work?

The airbag light comes on. Mine did and I had to change the seatbelt.

So if the steering lock doesn't work that's an MOT fail?

By 'indirect vision devices' does it mean mirrors or camera for reversing or both?

Quick question - my faithful Volvo has blown a sidelight (at the bulb holder, not the bulb), which is, of course, illuminating the check lights dash light.

Is this a fail, and if so, can I "unfail" it by taking out the other bulb? smile

Not sure if serious.
