Hi all,

I had a courtesy car given to me after an accident that i had recently. Unfortunately there is some plastic on the center console that has got a long wavy mark (about 8cm long) on it due to me being careless when putting in a child bike seat into the car.

The scratch is deep in some areas and less in others. I have tried to fix it, but it is still fairly visible. It is not too deep.

Does anyone know if i will get charged for this by the insurance company or not?

Also, when i received the car a bit of a part of the bumper was missing (the part that is removed when the car is towed), but i never noticed it when i collected the car and it was not marked on the check sheet that i was given. Anyone have any idea what will happen in regards to this?

Thanks

SS2.

Will depend entirely on the company that supplied the vehicle.

We've had experience of those who aren't overly fussed about the odd scuff here and there, and we've had experience of those who try to claim damages for any mark on the vehicle, however tiny it may be and irrespective of the fact that it may have pre-existed.

They'll either:
a) not notice
b) notice but not care
c) notice and take your excess, either in full or part
d) not notice at the time, but try it on afterwards when they do notice

When I gave my courtesy car back, they didn't even look inside.

I asked them, the only time they'd be bothered is if you were in a full blown crash, they're not bothered about scuffed bumpers ext.

In my experience they usually do a quick walk-around to check for accident damage / alloy / wheel trim damage. I've never known them to check the interior for damage.
I'd be more concerned about the tow point cover being missing than the scratch on the interior.

In future make sure that all pre-existing damage is on the hand over sheet.
