So driving to the office this morning a little lime green VW polo caught my eye as they do each time I see one. This is because the first car I bought was a 2000 VW polo 1.0 E in metallic lime green not a uncommon car but I've only ever seen a few in that colour and they always make me smile and remember the one I owned. Anyway I spotted the reg and it was my one, this was only the second time I've seen it since selling it.

I then noticed the most important part, it was for sale for a mear £700 this has got me seriously thinking of how I can get the money together and give my old car a good home. Am I being stupid and blinded by nostalgia? I know the car is nothing special (its a bogo vag in the lowest trim) and I put a fair bit of money (brakes, clutch, rad) into it during my ownership but I think I still love it a little.

I would, my first car was a mk3 Crapi, I saw it on Ebay a few years back and regretted not buying it.

Would definitely if it came round again.

edit - dont think anyone has done it yet, so here is a pic of the car (and gorm) in question

Nope, cos I scrapped it.

If I had an interesting car history I would consider revisiting.

I had a bit of a look to try and buy my Dad's first car back for him, but it seems it went to the great scrapyard in the sky too.

No. The bulkhead/firewall between the engine and cabin was rusted to hell.

I wish! Sadly the massive fire pretty much turned it to charcoal...

No. I wouldn't buy my exact first car back but would happily buy one of the same model.

Was a Fiat Uno 999cc. May sound st but I would love to buy another to put a 1.4 16v engine in it from the Panda 100hp.

Yep - black R plate Almera GTi - would love to have that back as I now realise what an excellent, cheap, track slag it would make.

No, the chassis of that Triumph Herald had rusted to buggery so it went to the great car park in the sky years ago! However, my youngest lad, like the OP, had a VW Polo 1.0E as his first car and did nothing but complain about its total lack of performance. Having got rid he now eulogises about that car wishing he had it back! So what is it about these particular Vee Dubs that engenders such emotion?

X-reg 106. Still see it driving around from time to time.

I've often thought about going and knocking on, offering a few hundred quid for it and sticking it in a garage for the next 20 years.

No.

Like many things from your past your first car is best left where it is, as a fond memory.

i spoke to the step dad of the person i sold my first car to. it was a 18 year old (when i sold it) 106 in poverty spec, but absolutely immaculate with bugger all miles. turns out the young girl i sold it to bashed it into everything she could see, before selling it for about £300 frown

I would be seriously tempted, but I know what condition it was in when I sold it a few years ago, and I don't think the new owners were the sort to give it some TLC. It'll be knackered by now.
