My we boy has just had a barf eruption in the back of the car! as i type the wife is out with a bucket of detol and cloths. Any tips on how to ensure the sour stinky smell dose not take hold.

How old? What did he chuck up? If it's milk, you may be in trouble!!

Cover the sick with a very liberal sprinkling of baking soda, leave to dry and vacuum. Rinse and repeate the cleaning with detol, baking soda, vacuum, until the sick smell is gone smile

You need an enzyme based cleaner. The pet accidents type from pet shops work well.

I have to add the obvious comment though - dont feed kids on that sort of crap then take them in the car!

Worst case a carpet shampooer, i.e. a Vax-type that applies and pulls out the cleaner.

Yep, Milk is the killer!

Get the scrubbing brush out, with sime good cleaning fluid. Also, what is that stuff that comes in the Blue can that you shake on carpets and vacuum up... Does that not kill smells like this?

This is by far the most important part, good to hear she is well trained.

I gave advice on clearing it up first, but surely prevention would have been better than cure?

I have 2 kids, I know what food stuffs are most likely to make them chuck up in the car. Op managed to include all but cream cakes in his list of the child's stomach contents.

It wasn't dietary advice as much as pointing out that it looks like a self inflicted event smile

Plus this is PH it is to be expected.

Definitely this - use the liquid stuff rather than the foam though it works better.

At least it wasn't in the front - carpet is pretty flat but dashboards have a lot of nooks & crannies....

This is the kind of thing that keeps me awake at night now that our first is 'on the way'...or specifically how to protect the interior. I'm thinking some sort of airtight cocoon around the child.smile

Neutrodol!

Both the Gel version that acts as a deodoriser, and comes in a handy little pack to sit somewhere, and the shake n vac type that you, eh.... shake n vac...

There might be a flaw in your plan......

After the first couple of times, you get a lot less precious about the interior!

Dont let them eat rich/greasy stuff before a journey, use pressure point type wrist bands (they really work), and get a car with firm suspension, the much maligned Audi A6 Sline suspension is ideal, kids never feel ill in my car but always feel in in the Mrs car which has limo like ride

Valet it.

Minus point: 80 quid.

Plus point: You won't have to do it. smile

I used CC Valeting when this happened in the wife's car... Amazing result.

Autosmart BioBrisk works really well, I was able to remove all traces of a vindaloo/lager eruption for a valeter mate with this product.
