Off to visit someone next week, only for a few days so only taking hand luggage.
With regards to the 100ml rule on liquids, where would I stand on taking a jar of Bovril? Would they class that as a liquid?

Cheers!

I'm almost entirely certain it would be confiscated, but I've never tried putting bovril in my luggage.

In my opinion it would need to be in a 100ml container

BAA advice said:
You can carry fruit, vegetables and all solid foods in your hand baggage. However, foods in sauces or with a high liquid content (such as sauces, pastes, soups and stews) need to go in the same transparent bag as any liquids, creams, gels and pastes.

The size of container must not exceed 100ml, regardless of the amount contained inside. Please note that jams, honey and other preserves are also subject to these restrictions.
they don't refer to the actual product of Bovril but since they mention pastes, sauces, jams etc I would almost certainly say Bovril would be restricted to 100ml container.

Try disguising it as baby food.
Yeah, because airport security really appreciate you trying to smuggle something in disguised as something else.... rolleyes

Ha! Glad I could raise a smile. People just don't understand how important Bovril on toast is to some of us!

Thanks everyone for your help. The Bovril will stay at home.

You coud decant it to 100ml bottles so long as your total does not exceed 1 litre, which is a hell of a lot of Bovril.

Kudos

The security nazis collared me yesterday because I didn't have the bag sealed. 2 small items, well within limits.

Also selected for a "random" search after I told her to wise up.

We had the issue of medication going through in the UK. More than 100ml but followed the rules and had doctors papers etc and it was all in a clear plastic bag. The fella at Heathrow told us to put it in one of their clear plastic bags, no problem with the volume, just that their plastic bags are better than mine..
