Cooling hoses replacement

Hi all, new here & looking to replace all hoses on my 1991 S2 which is in need of some tlc, I have found a full set of silicone hoses at act performance for £170 is this a good deal? Anyone know of anywhere else that supplies a full kit?
Also the radiator is in need of upgrade is it an LDV van & if so what model??

The radiator is from a Sherpa van (don't know which model), but it has an extra core.

Unless yours is in a very bad way, it should be relatively easy for a radiator specialist to repair and re-core yours.

The radiator is an LDV sherpa with extra cores. Chances of finding an LDV sherpa radiator: zero. Chances of it fitting: zero. Your best bet would be to get the existing radiator re-cored by a radiator specialist - costs about £140 or so.

Or you can splash the cash and buy an aluminium replacement for about £500 - not necessary in my view, unless you have other cooling issues (which you would be better advised to fix first) or you want the "bling". Or, of course, if you don't have an old radiator to re-core.

Can't advise on silicone hoses - too bling for me, never even thought about changing to them.

Here is a diagram showing a few part numbers.
You may be lucky and find some hoses at a local motor factors or on ebay.
With a bit of research you can find the original cars they were fitted to.
That's if you don't want new blingy silicon hoses of course.


By far the best way of upgrading the radiator is to get a recore.

hi i did my hoses due to some looking very old / cracked etc and also having a radiator and heater matrix fail i decided to go the whole hog

I bought an alloy rad which over-cools so well and i bought the stainless pipes too.

Word of warning on silicon hoses, you nee to check them after a little while as they can loosen

finally i plan a re-route of the rad bypass later once the weather turns cold again!

Not a big fan of silicone hoses myself a bit too "in your face" for my liking and tend to relax and leak at the clips. Did notice some jubilee clips the other day listed as "silicone hose clips", they are 12mm wide instead of 9mm which presumably helps keep them tight.

You can also get vinyl and rubber cleaner for a 20th of the price, to similar effect.

Don't forget water pipes, if still on original sets , mild steel corrodes I'n time (small pinprick wholes) change to stainless ...saves alot of bother after (if budget allows)..

Yes stainless steel pipes when changing hoses, silicone hoses are very good but you may need to tighten them up a bit more after a week or so.
