I was test driving at Millbrook today, and the high speed bowl was shut for a good 2 hours. Rumour was that a new F Type had burst into flames, no accident apparently. Couldn't get to the bottom of it and the guys from Jaguar weren't saying much.

Anyone know any more?

You should know what it's like if you use the facility.

Seeing as the chance of the general public being in attendance is lower than an earth worm's chin, it's hardly likely anyone (JLR/Millbrook employees) would spill the beans over such matters.

Millbrook is a development and test facility, designed to test cars to the edge.

Inevitably, during testing some issues will come to light with prototype parts that didn't show up on the computer simulations. Catastrophic failure of development cars is therefore part of perfectly normal development work and is by no means unusual.

I was also at Millbrook when this happened. There doesn't seem to be any information 'leaking' about what car was involved. I did see one being brought back from the bowl, but it was fully wrapped in sheeting. It looked too big to be an F-Type though. There was a strange Jaguar going round the bowl earlier, not part of the main event, maybe it was that one? As others have said this is a test venue and things do go wrong with test vehicles.
