Hi Everyone,

Been reading the forums for years but thought I'd join and see if I can get some help with a dilemma I have.

I currently have a e39 530d sport remapped to 225 bhp and I love it, build quality is excellent and it eats up the miles. Trouble is I have a 1971 vw camper in the post from Califronia and I don't think I'll be able to afford the insurance on my e39 anymore one it lands. The insurance at the moment is a whopping 2k.

So I'm trying to consider my options for a reluctant change of vehicle.

I'd ideally want something for around 2.5 - 3k and then £1200 insurance, I do around 11k miles a year mostly motorway miles so want something economical enough. So far cars I've considered are:

e39 540i sport: might sound like I went in the other direction but insurance is only £1400, problem is it would need to be lpg for economy and finding an lpg 540i sport is near impossible.

Audi S3 (breadvan shape): insurance too high

MK2 VW GTI 8v: Insurance too high to justify swapping the BMW although I'm going to ring volkszone car insurance to see if I can get a deal with the camper on the insurance too.

MK2 GTD(respond well to tuning): can't find any

Would love an old w124 300ce on lpg but again hard to find.

As you can see I'm looking at things a little out of the ordinary, I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on any other cars for me to try out. It will be a daily, I'm 23 1 years N.C.B. 2 years driving experience.

Thanks!
Shea.

Hi there.

Leon Cupra 1.8T? Economy should be decent enough on a run and can't imagine insurance would be too much of an issue.

How slow are you willing to go? I probably sound like a broken record having recommended these in a couple of other threads, but 1.6 EP2 Civics make great daily runners - cheap enough to buy, run and insure with the added bonus of very rarely going wrong.

You must live in bagdad or something! £2k is an awful lot for insurance on a 3l diesel. I assume youre 22 going by your username? Shop around, go directly to admirals website and get a better quote.

Peugeot 306 HDi with a decent remap?

With 2 years NCB and at that age I'd stick to something more reasonable.

The lack of NCB / postcode is probably killing your insurance the most.

Just a bit better than bagdad in terms of insurance ...Northern Ireland tongue out. Went to admiral there and got quoted £3002! Still can't believe a 285 bhp 540i is only £1400.

To be honest the only reason the ep2 appealed to me was the performance factor. I'll have a look at the leons
