We've been back on the best bits of our Welsh Weekend tour this afternoon. At a mountain-top pitstop near Llangynidr we came across some motoring journos (as you do):
They were filming this:
No - not the Porsche - the Ferrari in the background.
The Porsche (991 Carrera S) was us out on test drive.
Are we seriously considering it? Yes we are.
Why? Because sadly recent experiences with Aston Martin have not lived up to what we have been lucky enough to have enjoyed in the past.
So - the technically brilliant precision tool or the soul stirring V8 attention-grabber?

I loved my two 997 Carrera S's but not as much as the Astons I bought after all which just have bags more soul and make me smile far more each day. I've not driven the 991 Carrera S but from what I've heard its softer still (albeit faster and more competent) which just makes me think I wouldn't get on again.
I'm afraid in my eyes Aston > Porsche every time. As said above I would be surprised if you lasted long in the 991 and depreciation on new cars is eye watering. The only 991 I think I would consider these days is the GT3, but it's too compromised now that I am used to the V12V.
What is wrong with Pearl? I thought you had her all lined up for Purdey's old upgrades?

I have been lucky to have had two Aston Vantages and would have had another if AM had updated the current line up, now looking at Porsche and Jaguar.
Hopefully updated Vantage is not too far away, but test drives in both Porsche and Jaguar (F type) on road and track are in a different league to the Vantage (V12 exempt).

Sorry that your AM expectations have fallen below par and have not measured up to previous experiences......But and it is a big but please tread carefully along
the Porsche path as it is one I know only to well.
Technically brillant and sensationally quick they may be but you might just find yourself in the wilderness scratching your head and wondering why the hell you
sold your magnificent Aston,I know I did........
I'm all for experiencing other marques and if the hand fits the glove as they say hell go for it.
but please don't expect it to have that little something extra or
that constant grin factor that comes only with the Aston experience.
With a Porsche your exclusivity will immediately go out the window and you will not feel that warm admiration from other road users and you may even encounter
some odd hand gestures and negative comment, next time you drive around town count the Porsche's you see compared with Astons and then ask your self whether
you want to be part of the majority or remain a class apart in your lovely Aston.
I can't believe you are serious with this contemplation surely this is a wind up......but if you are serious and the brand really has totally disenchanted you stop and do
one thing before you do something regrettable....................Go look in your GARAGE it don't get no better than what you've got.
Oh well that my two bobs worth for now but remember I've got the tee shirt for this one and it a bloody expensive one when reality prevails.....

WOW!
Rob and Mollie, when we met up at Brands you seemed v happy with the new Vantage.
What has happened?
As you may or may not know, I run a 991 4S as well as the Vantage, and it is a truly impressive bit of kitt.
Docile and sensible if required and unbelievably fast and feral if you chose to set it up and drive it aggressively.
I have just more or less replicated the JLC Swiss trip in mine, and it was brilliant ( and practical, decent luggage space, and 32.5 mpg on the Autoroute!!!).
As has been said though I wouldn't want not to have an Aston in my life.
They offer very different strengths, but are both wonderful things.
I hope you go down the right path, whichever one it is.
Keep us posted!

Oh sorry, did not notice the Porsche first of all. Just saw the red Ferrari. Disappointed that you are not happy.
What is wrong with your new V8VS?
Are you missing the extra power and modifications of your V8V?
Take your time to decide. Good luck.
