I get where ThunderSpook is coming from especially for limited sets.
How many sets are actually limited, excluding the free-with-purchase stuff?

Stuff goes out of stock, but I'm not sure much is genuinely limited release.
Yeah aside from some convention exclusives (unusual these days) or gift with purchase, nothing is truly limited. Even if you can't get something at release it typically comes up within a few weeks or months (and most things see a modest discount at some point).

The trickiest thing is your kid becoming a huge Star Wars fan, then realising that apart from the 15 or so sets in print, you're absolutely going to get rinsed if you want a specific set/character.

My Up House and the freebies have arrived; however it was evidently soaked in transit and DPD re-packed it in just poly-bags. As such the box is both soggy and crushed. Lego chat were great - they can't swap it out as they're OOS (quelle surprise) but they've credited me 4000 points and I'll put that toward a new one to keep for the future and build the soggy-box one... Land Rover still en route apparently.
I can’t tell you how much it angers me when people keep stuff for the future. No wonder things are out of stock if people keep buying stuff for the future.

How about stop being selfish and just buy stuff to build, and if you don’t want to build it then don’t fking buy it and let someone else buy it who actually wants to build it.
Oh give over, you’ll get one if you want it.

Just to prove my point; I have some rare stuff that wasn't available to buy (Porsche pack that came with the 911, the Ulysses probe, Beskar keychain etc) - still got them all and no plans to sell.

So far I've never sold a single set I've bought, whether built or unbuilt.

This had been sitting on the shelf waiting to be built for a few months now. Rather enjoyable.

Ina way they are limited insomuch as they’re only available for as long as they’re produced/sold.

Some will have a longer shelf life some not so.

Some will be far more collectible others not so.

I buy to build and enjoy but also buy some to invest that then pays for the ones that I choose to build and keep.

Horses for courses really.

With that definition everything is limited, and the term is meaningless.

Finished over the long weekend. Some minor mods (using spare bits from the kit) to make it a bit better (I think):
- fitted the front plate
- used one of the pan handle bits for a support for the top of the snorkel when the cage isn't fitted, and moved the snorkel on to the clip for the cage.
- removed the clip for the fire extinguisher.
- used left over smooth bits to cover the exposed studs on the "adventure" bonnet (no idea why Lego didn't do that themselves) - pic is from before I did this.
- turned over the bits with the holes in them on the bonnet so it is smooth

I'm now trying to figure out how to slim down the winch and fit a couple of spot lamps above it.

Overall it is a good build, but the accessories are way over scale so I've left them off.

That’s the problem. I’d buy it if they did a ‘naked’ version, but the addition of all the bits I don’t want makes it comparatively expensive, so it’s a no from me.

How about you wind your neck in and mind your own fking business.

If you go back and read my many posts in this thread and the Technics thread, you'll see that I always buy to build. I DO keep the boxes safely flat-packed and mint in case I ever want to sell USED in future. This will be the first time I've ever ended up with a set that would stay new in its box and the only reason that's occurred is because the one I bought TO BUILD has been damaged in transit.
You can flat pack the boxes?!?! I thought that would ruin them. Is it easy to do, because the amount I have got is really starting to become a problem.

I rebag and box mine and put them in the loft. It's like a little toy shop now.

I was going to keep this one boxed but boredom got the better of me today.

Bloody brilliant and goes nicely with the Dagobah diorama

I open both ends with a craft knife then fold flat - works fine.

I need to do this, my cellar is beginning to look like a Lego warehouse…

This is the 3rd UCS X-Wing Lego have released, the last one wasn't even that long ago.
Whilst I broadly agree with the sentiment, the last one was 10 years ago! Lego SW goes out of print and then climbs to obscene values, so catering for new fans or those who missed out a decade ago on what is the most iconic ship that doesn't need to be £500+ in this scale/format seems fair enough. This seems like a reasonable away of dealing with an ongoing issue that is largely out of their hands (recognising it's impossible to keep making everything forever).

My son and I would do anything for a Jaba the Hutt Palace/Rancor Pit combo re-release (the one that stacks), yet there have been several variations of that historically.
I agree with ch37 for this release. I missed out on the previous X-Wing models and was not going to pay the piss take prices on eBay etc for discontinued sets. I’m very happy that they have released this set again but I get where Ash is coming from with certain sets being somewhat milked. I do wonder if Disney have a say on what Star Wars sets Lego can design and release confused

Thinking about it further I can see where ch37 is coming from, there are sets I've missed out on and would want, but won't pay the mark up for 2nd hand. So I do get it...I guess. But wow, the Red 5 X-Wing came out 10 years ago!?!?! WTF, where has that time gone!

Indeed, I was at Celebration this weekend and hoped to get the Celebration exclusive Lego set.....but there wasn't one. frown All they di was allow Celebration attendees to by (I think) a Brickheadz collection which was yet to be released, so they'd get it a few days weeks before it went on general release. So yep, long and short is, no convention only Star Wars Lego this time.

I do this too, all my boxes are flattened and then out in bin liners to protect them in the loft.

Took the decision to bin all my boxes a year or so ago as i was never likely to sell any and even if I did who cares about the boxes, probably looked like a lunatic at the dump!

Genuinely can't wait to start building Rivendell. I think I'll set aside a few days when the weather gets better and sit out with a few beers and do it. Don't want to rush it..
