We are off to get married in Fiji shortly and I need to get travel insurance sorted. It is quite a punchy price, and so most travel insurances for couples do not cover the amount it has cost us.

So, quick question, could me and my partner get two separate individual policies? The place we are staying has been booked as one invoice for both of us, the flights as one transaction for both of us. This is the only way I can see to get cover for us for the full amount, if I don't want to pay upwards of £350 for an annual couples worldwide policy.

Cheers

I'd suck it up you may even need better cover for it being a wedding if you have spent a good wedge then find that the airline has lost the bride's dress or your suit and it won't arrive till days after the wedding then the saving on insurance won't be worth the misery the rest of your married life will be.

Yes, wedding insurance is a better option.

John Lewis does excellent cover and can tailor your policy requirements pretty well - it is a good place to start.

Thanks guys,

In fairness, the wedding part of the trip makes up a tiny percentage of the overall thing. It is only us going, the wedding dress is just a very nice simple lightweight dress which will most likely be in hand luggage along with the rings. I did originally have a look at wedding insurance but we don't need cover for 99% of the weddingy bits.

The only things I really want to cover (or am slightly concerned about) are: cancellations by the resort, delays from connecting flights, sickness preventing travel or early return etc, ie things that you would want from normal travel insurance.

Normal cover is up to about £7500 for a trip, which isn't enough. Two lots of that would certainly cover everything I would want to cover.

So basically I come back to - are we allowed to have 2 separate policies for the trip, one for me and one for wifey, even though flights and location were booked for 2 people each?

Thanks in advance!

It's per person per trip. The limits in a policy are for each individual. So on a couples policy or a family policy, it's £7500 EACH per trip, if thet's the cancellation limit.

Same with the medical. The limit might be £2m, but if the whole family are involved in the same accident and it's a family policy, they get £2m each.

Just to close this off - just about to order some insurance now, and as Twig has stated, the limits are per person in the policy. Happy days.
