Bosch fuel injectors
Discussion
Is there anyone who has a set of Bosch fuel injectors available for a Griff?
After a chat with Mark Adams, prior to my rolling road session with him, I like the idea of fitting Bosch injectors, there are quite a few advantages when you read up on them, mainly atomisation rather than flow. However, they are £500 for a set new.
Having my Lucas ones cleaned or buying a second hand set of Vectra injectors and having them cleaned is an option (although not potentially a huge improvement) but I thought that I would ask first before doing anything. I would like to fit them at the same time that I do the carbon trumpets, ready for the session.

Not sure if you can have the Bosch AFM on a pre cat but seems a stock response. I have no idea on tuning so not sure of the advantages. If it was that easy then everyone would just do those 2 things but not sure how many who havent gone to Mark have - who's right? who knows.

Not looked at prices lately, but I got my Bosch injectors stateside from this company

At the the time (including import Tax) they came in at almost half the price of the cheapest deal i could get over here.

In terms of the AFM, Mark's thoughts were that as mine is starting to produce reasonable power a Lucas 20AM from the P38 Range Rover is a good upgrade with lots available between £40-50 on ebay. FFG
There was no hard sell at all on the injectors, we were just discussing the advantages of the Bosch spray patten. I realise that current Lucas injectors will certainly not be limiting, in terms of fuel flow, but because I don't have the engine capacity, every little bit of efficiency helps. Its just getting a balance with the money as I am guessing that the gains from £500 worth of injectors are going to be relatively small. However, the thing is with Mark, he has so much experience in tuning this engine, if you were going to choose to listen to one person, its probably going to be him. I will do a little write up when I have finished as with you having the same engine, a lot of it will be relevant to you as well.

I have had my 500 setup by Mark, very impressed with the results. Full write up here...

I am running Bosch red top injectors and a P38 AFM, both installed by Rob at V8D.
I remember the injectors being £300 and the AFM £75, but may have got that wrong.

I will do thanks. Knowing what you know now, did the AFM and the injectors make a noticeable difference?I remember the injectors being £300 and the AFM £75, but may have got that wrong.

Sorry not to be more clear cut. The prices were fitted, but the best advice will come free from the experts. Both are great guys and are happy to talk to you. Marks on 01694 720144, Rob on 01775 750000. Mark for mapping Rob for engine components. They overlap a fair bit, and Rob is also fond of Megasquirt..

Pete,
Can you use the Bosch 20AM on pre cats? Sure I read somewhere you can't.

Paul - I am pretty sure that you can, that was Mark's suggestion. There are also plenty of them around but of course they are black, a different shape and obviously won't look very original. Can you use the Bosch 20AM on pre cats? Sure I read somewhere you can't.

I think that they are a little longer as well so you won't have to buy another ACT induction hose set or elbow at least, as you do with the Bosch AFM which I think is a little shorter. However, I have actually bought a MA bespoke chip now based on standard injectors and AFM.
As the 20AMs are so cheap, I might take a second hand one with me, and it would be easy to fit quickly and see what difference it makes. If the injectors are causing a problem Mark always brings a set anyway, the only issue is that you loose one and a half hours swapping them over which is valuable time given that you are paying for Mark and the roller time.

Paul, I've been chatting with Mark about AFM, due to my ocar isssues... and a 20AM can be used, but it requires a remap and I think if I understood correctly some connector adaptor...... as we think my AFM is past it's best as it's the original made in 1991, I've bought a 20AM, and Mark is doing a best guess map based on data he already has from previous map and 20am,enlarged plenum had done xmas.... which will include boosting fuel pressure, which he is able to do due to my yellow top injectors not being standard (apparently they can take pressure up to about 3.5, and have good atomisation..... no idea what make or spec they they are though, Mark recognises them though and knows what he can do with them)Can you use the Bosch 20AM on pre cats? Sure I read somewhere you can't.

I'm doing best guess map initially, until I confirm that AFM is the issue... otherwise it waste of everyones time and money if it aint doing a rolling road map.
