Just wondering if it was worth a thread on "My first car".

My first was a Triumph Herald 1200cc, not sure what year it was, I traded in my BSA 650cc Clubman's Lightning, (yes I know it's a classic, didn't know then).

Cost was £250, loved it, had a tighter turning circle than a London taxi, apparently, and the bonnet folded forwards allowing you to sit on the wheel and work on the engine.

Austin A40 Registration number 1436TW. Can't remember what year it was all I know is that it was older than I was at 17

Saxo VTR was my first car.

Paid £2600 on 56k back in August 2007, passed my test March 2008 and put around 1200 miles on in around a week and a half.

Sold it August 2009, regretted it ever since.

Loved it, miss it, would buy it back anyday (well would've if if hasn't been scrapped).

Me too!
Austin A40 Mk1 Registration number WCO 894. 1960 or '62 I think and also older than I was at 17.
Early people carrier since on one occasion it still managed to move with 10 people squashed inside. smile

A Mk1 Ford Escort 1300GT with a 1600GT engine. Accelerated very well due to the 1300 gearing until the gearbox gave up. Thoroughly enjoyed the car and still have a soft spot for Mk1 Escorts.

MK 2 Escort van. If that doesn't count as a "car" then it was a 74 Camaro that followed it.

205 GTI complete with 4 different brands of tyres inc a remould. Was all over the place, even at 15mph in the wet but I took it as typical 205 tail happy characteristics not realising they weren't that bad..

Sadly we left the road at about 60 in it one day which didn't completely kill it but did mean I had to flog it.

Shame as I was the envy of most of my mates at the time and had a lovely stereo etc when I should have spent the money on decent tyres - lesson learnt!

Rusty but trusty and clattered like a tractor when cold.

Taught me car control and introduced me to the joys of RWD biggrin

I usually ended up as chauffeur for my mates as well since we could fit all our gear in the boot.
