I wouldn't worry.

Buy a 328 Touring - better in every way and good ones are still available below £1k

There's also the mk1 mondeo estate.
Or the mk2 mondeo estate.
Or the mk3 mondeo estate.
Or the mk4 mondeo estate.
Or the mk5 mondeo estate, if you're prepared to wait a few months.

I'm sorry to say I sent one to its grave.

Not an estate, but I looked at a XR4i once and really, really wanted it. Took it out for a test drive, got back and found the indicator had fell out. I took this as a sign of things to come so walked away.

I did like the Sierra. I have owed two and one being a company car. I loved my 2.3L full race one that come out of a crashed cortina.

There is one that is still floating around the town at the moment.

Talking about cars that have gone. I really wanted another 827 fastback. They have all gone as well.

My grand fathers last car was a flat red mk2 Sierra estate. Loved that car. Flipping massive with the seats folded down too.

I was 12 when he died, and my grandmother sold the car for £50 from what I remember.

This would have been around 1996 so the car wouldn't have been that old either but from memory it was pretty rotten

Had a string of sierras and spent many a night camping in the back of the estate (quite comfy) and hatch variety (less so, but do-able). Happy days.

I join you in mourning - had not noticed how rare they are, but cannot recall the last time I saw one on the road.

Must say that the Mk3 Mondeo appears to be the do all, carry all, get anywhere car of the moment.

£5K buys you the best low mileage example and it is invisible. For those of us who value our privacy, the car makes you unnoticeable. After years of driving lots of flash motors, it's great to disappear.

Less than a grand will get you useable example.

My first (legal) car was a Polaris Gray Sapphire with the horrible 1.8 CVH engine. Lasted 3 days until the head warped. Fitted a 2.1 Pinto on 45s and collected many penalty points lol.

The problem with Sierras is that a lot of young fellas have realised that they're RWD and cheap to insure. So many cars have been destroyed here by people who haven't a clue. Makes me a little bit sick.

I like dags.

No axe to grind over Sierras or 3 series mind smile but an estate should be practical, I'm not a fan of 'lifestyle' estates for the sake of it.

OP starts a thread mourning the loss of Sierra's. People immediately start saying you should buy an X Y or Z type car.

Come......................on. Are people really that thick?

I had a 2.0 LX estate - excellent car that never once let me down in the near 2 years I had it. Unfortunately I one day realised the MOT had run out several months prior and when I did try it needed an epic amount of welding so off over the Bridge of Doom it went

Yes - some of them bought a Sierra !

Worse some are concerned that you can't buy them any more.

If you're *that* keen, OP, don't forget that Sierras were sold in countries with climates less conducive to rust: South Africa, Australia, (some of) New Zealand... scratchchin
