Firstly when it comes to Finance, I'm not the most clued up. So I'm hoping for some advice to point me in the right direction.

My Wife and I are trying to save up a deposit for our first house. I'm 33 and she's 31, so we're intent on it happening this year. More so as we are trying for a child. Currently we're saving £1,000 a month and putting it into her normal savings account, which has a poor interest rate.

My question is would it be worth investing that £1,000 in Stocks and Bonds, or is the time frame too short and the risk too high?

Far too high a risk for the time-frame.
Bank deposit only IMO.

Had a feeling that might be the answer, but thank you.

Or Premium Bonds. Frankly the taxed net interest from the bank is going to make zero difference to your deposit so the risk is negligible, and the potential upside is a bit of fun. Couldn't be more secure either.
