Best gallery system
Discussion
I have some webspace (ftp and the like) and would like to run something so that as I take new pictures I can easily upload them, generating thumbnails etc.
I could use something like picasa or the batch stuff in photoshop but did wonder of there was something a little easier/more controllable.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

This is the best I have ever found
http://jalbum.net/
Very easy to use, totally customisable, and great results, and it even "smart FTP"'s up any changes.

Coppermine Photo Gallery is the best that I have found so far - <a href="http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/">http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/</a>
I would say take a look at my website for a sample, but i've gone and broken it! Will try and fix it quickly now..
OK, I have fixed it now (but only put up a few images for the moment) feel free to ask any questions though! It really can do everything you could ever want from a gallery, and most importantly batch uploads of files.

Did I mention that I don't want any server side stuff going on? so the first two suggestions are ideal, Jalbum looks the dogs so I shall be having a play this evening if I get time.
Thanks

That's Coppermine out of the window then, it requires php and mySQL! Still worth looking into if you can face the jargon though.
Phil S said:Personally I'd say it's lacking. It doesn't read the EXIF stuff, and it doesn't even WIDTH/HEIGHT the boxes properly.

JAlbum does all that and doesn't require anything server side

I make my own thumbnails and stick them in a table. It seems a damn sight easier than what you guys are talking about!
Nice photos (I love some of the spot colour stuff)
I bet it would be easier to use Jalbum than hand code it all, I'm amazed at the level of control I get with it, I just need to get bonce to tweak the css a bit

It may seem easier . . .
to import into coppermine . . .
upload files to webserver, select bulk import from admin menu, select the pics you want, press go . . .
job done
Oh and although not relevant, as such, the coppermine install I use does EXIF just fine.

Hand code? No, I make a smaller version of each pic in PS, rename with the prefix 't' and save in the Web. Then I fire up my favourite FrontPage, create a table and just drag the images over, one per cell.
However, I agree this would get tedious if you had hundreds to do.
