£100K Garage: Ed Scott

The budget's just for fun says Ed. That explains the Viper, TVR, Exige and Clio Trophy then!

Name: Ed Scott
Previously owned: Renault Clio, Vauxhall Corsa
Currently owned: Mazda RX-7 FD, Mazda RX-8 R3
On the shortlist: "I'd still class myself as fairly young so I have no real requirements other than having a lot of fun. My £100K will be spent putting a smile on my face!"

Dodge Viper GTS
Cost: £32,500
Balance: £67,500
Why I chose it: "An unbelievably humongous engine, appalling green credentials and running costs that Bill Gates would struggle to justify - what's not to love?

"That massive V10, the gorgeous long nose-short tail body and the immense speed. I'm not too fond of American cars but this is the exception, it's my dream car."

RenaultSport Clio 182 Trophy

Cost: £5,995
Balance: £61,505
Why I chose it: "It's one of the best hot hatches ever made. I love these and it's the one car I'll always be looking at in the classifieds which is why it absolutely had to have a place on this list. I'd use this to commute, go shopping and all for the other mundane tasks I have to do. This one in particular looks like it's been well looked after, it has low mileage and most importantly the dampers have been refurbished recently.

"Oh, and those Turini wheels!"

Mazda RX-7 FD
Cost:
£5,995 plus £15,000 for modifications
Balance: £40,510
Why I chose it: "This would be the car to scare the hell out of me. Firstly, I'd get rid of that vile bodykit (especially the spoiler) and bring the exterior back to standard. Then I'd take out the twin turbocharged twin rotor 13b unit and replace it with a single turbo triple rotor 20b and turn the boost right up; it would be absolutely savage and a hell of a blast to drive... That rotary whine would be sensational!

"I chose this one because it's cheap and as I plan to rip its innards out anyways, I didn't deem it necessary to pick up a good example."

TVR Chimaera 400
Cost: £11,950
Balance: £28,560
Why I chose it: "It's the perfect sports car, surely? V8 powered, gorgeous looks and a noise that will make your knees wobble! I've done a dozen 'Should I buy a TVR' threads in General Gassing and still haven't taken the plunge but I think having £100K to spend would definitely be that final push I'd need!

"This one is in the best colour combination for the Chim (in my opinion) and looks to have been well looked after, although no mention of the chassis and outriggers is a little worrying."

Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG
Cost:
£9,500
Balance: £19,060
Why I chose it: "I guess I would eventually need to carry several people in comfort over a long distance, in which case I would go for what is probably the best looking E-Class alongside the W124, powered by a monstrous 5.4-litre supercharged V8. I love the round headlamps and the pipes are lovely. What I love most is that to the average person this is just another E-Class but to petrolheads it's a whole lot more!

"This one I've chosen is well priced but the high mileage and potential bork factor is terrifying!"

Lotus Exige S2,
Cost: £18,495
Balance: £565
Why I chose it: "This would be for track days but also the occasional B-road blast. I don't think there is a better choice this side of a Caterham. This is the best colour for the Exige and it just looks mean.

"The only downside is that the engine is a little bland - but I'm sure I wouldn't be thinking that as I tackle Paddock Hill!"

"And I'd spend the balance on fuel, not that it'd get me very far with the rather uneconomical cars I've chosen!"

Well done sir.

Perfect choices down to the 20b conversion. I concur.

Great choices. You've tempted me to look at Clio Trophys! I was never massively impressed with my regular Clio 182 but I do think it wasn't the best example, the Trophy is very nice :P

I like the idea of the highly modified RX7 as well, they sound incredible when highly tuned and being driven hard.
My favourite garage so far! smile

why would you buy an RX7 when you already have one?

This seems a slightly immature list, not practical in any way. Don't get me wrong, these are mostly good cars (maybe not the boat with the V10) but the Clio is great fun and surprisingly practical and the RX7 is wonderfully underrated but it's too much of the same for me. The Merc seems like an afterthought and why have the lotus and the Clio when they are both surprisingly similar.

Slightly odd but nonetheless interesting.

Exactly, I love my current FD how it is and wouldn't want to convert it to a 20b. Having another with the 20b would make it an entirely different experience.

It doesn't need to be practical! I'm 22 and have a 15 mile commute. No wife, no kids... All that matters would be the fun factor!

Back seats / proper boot and front wheel drive? Pretty different in my view.

Needs a 4x4 for me but best garage so far...

Practical? Immature?
A great selection from someone who sounds like they know how to have some fun. Also, how is a low slung rear wheel drive Lotus like a Clio?

Are Clio 182 Trophy's that much? Cool car though, And what a stupid comment? Immature list! Really? Each to their own as it is "your 100k garage"

Yup definitely the list of a 22 year old.

Love the idea of the Merc, stealthy and you taking your folks out for a quiet Sunday spin.

Good to have some sort of TVR in there too.

Second most expensive car is for doing track days, better look at the advert below that one to see what that will end up.

Lacking in imagination to have three of the same type of car and add a more powerful version one you have already owned and then sold / written off

Viper. Great choice.

Brilliant £100k Garage! Loving the Viper, I always forget about them whenever I'm doing some dream car classifieds browsing (we all do it) but whenever I'm reminded of them it just makes me want one so bad!

My favourite list so far. I would personally swap the Merc for an E46 M3 and the Viper for a C6 Z06.

Decent Trophies with the "big" jobs out of the way and reasonable (75k and below) milage are 5-6k, about double a standard 182.

I know this all too well, because tomorrow i'm on a very long trwin journey first thing to pick up mine!!!!! smilesmile

Definitely one of the best garages I reckon, endless fun w/ those choices. Thought a TVR would be in there somewhere, Ed! I feel strangely drawn to the little Trophy, would love a go in one.

Does that Exige have the same indicator storks as my 1995 diesel Peugeot 306?!
