I must say a big thank you to a very pleasant pair of Essex Trafpol who 'saved' me last night.

To cut a long story short my car ran out of fuel despite the warning not coming on, the gauge registering about an 1/8 th tank and the computer saying still got 100km to go.

The location was OK'ish, just approaching the roundabout from Stansted airport to join the M11, so there was a service station there (I was headed to it anyway ). I got the car onto the reservation and left my wife with it while I walked to the petrol station. I had nearly got there when my wife rang and said Trafpol had arrived. I spoke to them and explained the situation and they towed the car to the petrol station for me, luckily they were double-crewed so I waited for them at the petrol station instead of having to go back to the car.

My wife speaks English so she could explain to them why a Hungarian registered car was broken down, and they did not seem surprised that I was English, driving a foreign car. There was no request for papers or anything else, they were helpful and friendly, refused a donation for the charity, saying it was Christmas.

A BIG thumbs up to Essex Trafpol!

Keep posting these good experiences here chaps. There is too much bad press about trafpol around. Hearing these happy stories is good.

(It may be added that is doesn't sound like you were doing anything wrong, but it is still good that the BiB went out of their way to help, when they could have just driven on by.)

It is always good to hear the positive comments, as well as negative ones.
The majority of officers will help out whenever possible, changing wheels, pushing cars, delivering babies(I kid you not), along with nicking people, getting bashed over the head with bottles etc.
I have met a lot of fascinating people, along with those that want to take my head off.

It's a fun job, and as with anything, nice to hear a positive reaction once in a while.

Right then, I'm off to bugger someones day up........

I really wander if it's the TrafPol in that particular area. I got pulled on the Stanstead bypass a few months ago. The BiB was polite courteous and to the point. He gave me a deserved dressing down, commented on my Road Angel and bid me good day. He must have have been working out of the same garage as the guys that helped you, possible was even one of them.

Could well have been, this was certainly intelligent policing, to me it shows that at grass-roots policing is still healthy, it's just management and politics that is gone to st.

So why did you run out with 1/8 on guage?

cheers

MoJo. (no not being funny just that have learnt not to push fuel guages [apart from last Audi that was "spot" on]).
