Im going to phuket

Looking for some must see things? Patong market, temple's?

Does anyone know a rough price guide for taxis. I'm a little out the way and I don't want to get bummed by the cost of taxis.

Say a 20km trip?

Any other things I need to know?

I would have said go somewhere else but a bit late now !!

Go to Pha Nga Bay and do a kayak trip. Just like Halong Bay.

It is overrun with obese Russians. If you must go, try one of the quieter areas to the north of the island, but even there Vladimir the cake eater will be there.

As I always say Phucket is what you want it to be, for me it is a 10 hour bike ride, so I can do for a long weekend where it is just the target turnaround spot for bike tour with the boys, also done family hoidays with my kids, if you don't bother with the seedy side it wont bother you, I wont say you wont see it but just ignore, The biggest problem is actually the tailors, who you can't ignore.
Don't worry about rip off taxis the amount they rip you of is nothing to you, airport journey etc arange through hotel, you can arange all the trips you want at hotel desk or ony office in the street, If you just book at one of the ticket offices I've never know any one have a problem, they always turn up and collect you, just don't expect a refund if you are to ill to go.
A lot of trips from Phucket, involve going to the mainland so can be an hour or so in a hot van.
Not my first choice, but I know Thailand well, You will love it, if you have never been before don't listen to people who say you wont just get on with it for what it is.

Scott,
there's absolutely loads of stuff that you could enjoy on and around Phuket.
It's true that Patong isn't authentic Thailand, but to be honest, you could have a couple of good nights down there, just people watching, if nothing else.
As said, taxis are dirt cheap. You can get great deals and service from some of the taxi and tuk tuk guys, especially outside Patong, where there are more mercenary. If you use a taxi and are happy with the service and price, it's worth striking up a repeat business arrangement - can be very useful.
I don't think Phuket is especially known for remarkable temples, but I could be wrong. There are loads of regular temples, but nothing special, as far as I am aware. There is a huge Buddha on top of the hill behind Kata/Karon, but I'm not sure what else is up there, or even if it's accessible.
Phuket Town is worth a look around. Some of the old Portuguese buildings are still there and traditional life still carries on.
Boat charters to near by islands can be good fun too. Just strike a deal with one of the tour desk and explore.

PM me if you want some specifics.

Good, as I say Phuket is what you make it, if you want seedy you can find it easy, but you can avoid it and have a good time, Look at going further S and East, beyond Krabbie and down to Trang is nice but you need to drive, you wont see a European.

I absolutely loved it last time.

A good mixture of being able to relax on the beach for a few days and the right amount of culture.

I have booked a scooter for a week and a few tours with the same chap I used last time.

Staying here - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g297930-...

Its all inclusive but I find it more handy for the odd beer and meal here and there. To be honest I could't have done it much cheaper if I purchased separate so this suits us nicely.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll get more than we had, it was ridiculous. Staff didn't insist on upright seats for meals and when people complained there was no room for their food tray just shrugged their shoulders!

Best way I've found in 20 years to S E Asia is BA premium economy, great combination of comfort to value. Flight started to KL last year, and after a good response on here I've used it a few times, great, will be using it for my ski trip in January, there is no direct route to the Alps, transit in terminal 5, its 100 pounds more that Qatar tourist class. I read the other day they have now started to Bangkok.
