We are thinking of re-doing the kitchen, we've lived with one that was here when we moved in for a few years now, and the time has come to get rid of it.

The shape of our kitchen is a bit trickey and the on-line planners such as Ikea are difficult to put our floorplan into, they seem to want us all to live in square boxes.

Is there any other on-line programs people could suggest?

I'd suggest going to a kitchen supplier or 2 for ideas. They do it day in day out and will introduce new ideas to you. Then steal them and do it yourself!

DIY kitchens have a PDF which you have items you cut out and put in place on a grid.

TBH with you I would just draw a scale plan in pencil on graph paper!

If you want to delve into the world of trying to take the time to draw it up yourself on computer then it might be worth having a look at sketchup or turbocad designer.

As Foliage has said, Sketchup is the way to do this. There's a free version which is entirely adequate and will do all a kitchen designer needs. Just Google it, and download it, then watch YouTube tutorials.

If you post the dimension of your kitchen, I'll have a quick go at it just to show you what is possible. Best way to do that is to do a floor plan sketch, write the dimensions on it, in metric, and any walls that have windows or doors, sketch those too, and put the dimensions on, how far from the floor, ceiling, corners etc.

You can do the sketch with pencil and paper if you don't fancy MS Paint, and photograph it, then post it here.

That's great, thanks. I had a go with Sketchup but didn't get very far, any Youtube vids you would reccommend there's loads but couldn't find anything much that was helpful to what I was trying to do.

Here's the 'sketch', lol

The windows are both 1100 high and 1100 up from the floor. Ceiling is mostly 2650 high but there's a boxed in rsj coming across from the wall into the sitting room, so straight down in the picture, about 350 wide and theres only 2150 underneath it, if you see what I mean.

I use the IKEA kitchen planning software via their website. Easy to use and gives an instant 3d representation.

There's something wrong with some of the dimensions, Robin.

Either the rsj isn't where I thought from your description, or there's something wrong with the dimension or position of that window

I've been using a great app on the iPad called Roomle - not specifically for kitchens though you can drag and drop many kitchen items in. Essentially you can design a full extension of your home inc kitchen and look top down, 3D, walk through tour etc. You can also access the same design via any browser in the same way . All designs saved online. Excellent app for free.

Sorry, been away, thanks for doing the drawing I didn't get anywhere hear that. Quite a mess-up with my dimensions, I'm blaming the person who took the dictation, and she's blaming me lol.

The rsj position is correct far as I can see, but the window is only 1000 high and 805 from the corner to it's right.

All the other measurements are ok except the glass doors into the garden which should be 2200 wide not 1200 wide.the 1350 to the window is correct though.

Cheers mate. owe you a pint.

I've made the corrections to the model.

If you PM me your email address I'll send you the Sketchup file which you can then open in your version of Sketchup, that should give you a decent start to start drawing in some designs.
