LED for interior light

Has anybody replaced the pathetic interior lamp with an LED ?

I had similar thoughts last year and tried fitting a BA15S LED to my Griff interior light. It didn't work on my car because the way the 2-way switch is wired in the light fitting it presents reverse polarity as to how the LED bulb needs it. (LEDs are polarity sensitive). I know you can get better spec LED bulbs with auto sensing polarity but I can't comment on whether they do them in this size. If you manage to solve this I'd be v grateful if you could update this thread.

James are you saying that the polarity changes depending on which door opens or it depends on the switch position ?

I assume that 2 of the 3 connections are one from the switch itself and one from the doors, and the other is the return.

I replaced the interior light with a LED one:-

White Car Interior Bulb 24 SMD LED Lamp Light Panel With BA15S 1156 Adapter

This was from Ebay and did the job, this was done over a year ago and it works fine

I don't suppose you guys have a link to what was purchased by any chance ?

I found some US ebay items.

Does the LED panel just lay under the plastic lens ?

The polarity of the light fitting can't be easily reversed but using the LED panel is a great easy idea. The connections between the panel and the B15 plug can be reversed instead. Thanks for the idea chaps.

Not had an issue using LED festoon bulbs in the light in both Samy and Tamy. Chims and Griefs must be different.

I also added an MG TF rear view mirror that has two integrated map lights. Now there's a good amount of light from back and front.

I may add some strips in to the foot wells just to aid not squishing anything as you get in.

I actually forgot I did this mod until late last night leaving Surrey, its like Blackpool Illuminations
