Hi, i am after some advice from all of you lovely knowledgable people please.

Iv bought an old police/court house which has stone window pillars with cast iron frames and i think pretty much all original glass. What im looking to do is fairly conventional by leaving the original windows and retrofitting secondary glazing on the inside.

Now the window reveals are good and deep so what i had in mind was to make some wooden frames with opening sections. This is the relatively easy bit because im a cabinet maker and have a good workshop at my disposal.

The bit im unsure about is that i was thinking of fitting double glazing panels into the frames, is this a good idea? Iv done a bit of research and found that its not advised to fit double glazed units to existing wood frames as it can cause the seal on the double glaze to fail and get condensated over time but would this still be the case for me seen as my frames are entirely internal so not getting exposed to the elements?

You'll be fine.

The seals break down as they are wet due to rain water not being drained away - not an issue in your case.

Ah great thanks very much. Iv read alot aswell about different double sided tapes to use around the edge will anything do for my job? and how much clearance do ye reckon around the frame and glazing units? I was guessing 2mm?

P.s. Sorry Spudler but what is double glazed crittal?
