Patrol fleet launched by police

The vehicles are fitted with video and speed detection equipment
A fleet of high-powered patrol cars including a high visibility Subaru Impreza is the latest line of attack on criminals by Humberside Police.
Six new vehicles are being used by the Roads Crime Section, a team set up to increase arrests for supply of Class A drugs, violent crime and burglary.

The force says the unit is meant to deny criminals use of the region's roads.

It follows a change in policy allowing officers to pursue suspects at speed.

Pursuit training

Ch Supt Paul Davidson said: "I acknowledge there are risks but also acknowledge that there is a need for this to happen.

"Through our innovation and use of trained staff we will minimise those risks substantially."

The new vehicles are fitted with video and speed detection equipment and Mr Davidson said all members of staff had received pursuit management training.

However, he said pursuit was a last resort.

"If a criminal using a car is wanted, we can catch them returning to his car from the shop, coming out of a pub, the options are endless.

"But if we have to pursue because the criminal fails to stop, we will."

That's the end of his career then - sadly. The Risk Management pointyheads will make sure he doesn't go any further.

Minimise risk? You're not allowed to do that Sonny - you have to remove all chances and traces of it, then move onto the FEAR of risk, and finally disappear up your own jacksie.

Shame - sounds like your friend Ch Supt Davidson makes a lot of sense.

Patrol fleet launched by police

The vehicles are fitted with video and speed detection equipment(now theres a surprise!)
A fleet of high-powered patrol cars including a high visibility Subaru Impreza is the latest line of attack on criminals(also known as drivers) by Humberside Police.
Six new vehicles are being used by the Roads Crime Section, a team set up to increase arrests for supply of Class A drugs, violent crime and burglary.

The force says the unit is meant to deny criminals use of the region's roads (by trying to drive faster than everyone else and screwing it up along the way).

It follows a change in policy allowing officers to pursue suspects (drivers exceeding a posted limit)at speed (regardless of the consequences and also so they can do burnouts outside of MacDonalds).

Pursuit training

Ch Supt Paul Davidson said: "I acknowledge there are risks but also acknowledge that there is a need for this to happen(but its a chance i am willing to take).

"Through our innovation(ooh cops chasing folk! Now theres a thing!) and use of trained staff(trained?) we will minimise those risks substantially(by running them off the roads ala John J Bunnell style).

The new vehicles are fitted with video and speed detection equipment(cos thats all that matters to us) and Mr Davidson said all members of staff had received pursuit management training(including how NOT to glance at a speedo while approaching a gatso).

However, he said pursuit was a last resort (which will be used first).

"If a criminal(driver) using a car is wanted(for speeding), we can catch them returning to his car from the shop, coming out of a pub, the options are endless(so long as we make some cash out of it).

"But if we have to pursue because the criminal fails to stop, we will.(cos like everyone, we like a good race.)"

Just trolling SC....

Humberside - replacing their Escort Cosworths so soon? Are they for sale? Will the Scoobies also be equipped so they can drive over speed bumps rather swiftly?

At least we now know for sure that the plod regard 85mph on a deserted motorway as a criminal act.

How will speed detection and video equipment help catch drug suppliers ?

Just knew someone would pick up on that

The 'unit' will deal will all sorts of 'road related' incidents.

Picture this scene; suspected drug dealer fails to stop for police...during the 'FTS' the driver does 110mph,undertaking other vehicles etc etc...
That evidence will also appear before a court and will significantly increase his sentence, due to the danger to the public.

Please don't get hung up on this 'their after speeders' etc etc..

Units like this are the last chance for the public to be protected against fleeing criminals in vehicles......The time when the police are no longer permitted to pursue fleeing vehicles is only just around the corner and we're getting closer to it...

THEN there will be time to whine..

You'd have to service them once a week! Just think of the running costs. Have to catch more speeders to make them pay

These are just another thing for the kids that don't go to school to have a go at. I reckon this type of police car ought to have roundels applied.

Better still for these kids is if they can encorage a police officer to kill a middle class mum and her kids whilst chasing after them.

It's clearly proven that the safe route is to use police helicopters, rather than to chase suspects on the road.

Just another example of the police exhibiting double standards if you ask me.

I remember the days of the Cosworth. They used to pair it with a Siera dog car. The car theiving scrotes soon worked out if they reversed into the Cosworth the Police would back off and send the dog car after them. Sort of defeats the object really.

We had a VR6 Octavia on trial. Fabulous machine. However, the Volvo contract is for another 5/6 years..so is Scandinavian for us for the time being.

Erm, excuse me, but I would have thought a Road Crimes Section would have been set up to deal with er...

road crimes, such as TWOCing, driving without insurance/tax/MOT, dangerous driving etc.....

That would be too much like having a Traffic Department and some wound see that as a move backwards....

The Humbs squad is to deal with ANY criminal use of the roads..
