I'm looking for an outdoor lantern wall light for my parents

Is it possible for it to come on automatically and then go off in the morning?
The only ones I can seem to find when searching for 'automatic' are the PIR type.

Any help or advice appreciated.

Try searching for "Dawn Dusk"

I had a good one from Homebase it would stay at 1/2 power dawn - dusk but also had a PIR and would go full power if it detected anything - worked perfectly for 5yrs (then I moved)

If you want a light to come on when it gets dark and stay on until it gets light again look for fitting that says it has an integral pec (photo electric cell).

You can get low energy lamps with photocell built in and use whatever fitting you like.

I've tried loads of these and they are awful.

The sensor is obviously too close to the light source and they just don't work reliably.

Really? I've got several of them round the house on lanterns and they are perfect.

You could always put an ordinary light unit on a timer switch.

Can you tell me what make and where you bought them from ?

I've tried loads - Screwfix, Maplin etc - most just flash and don't turn off in daylight.

Yup, I'll check on Friday my most recent model. Working away at present.

I do know some of them were Megaman manufactured and purchased from tlc direct. They are discontinued now unfortunately.

Or get a separate dawn-dusk sensor and then you can have whatever light you like?

I bought this one a few months ago:

http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Lighting/d220/LED+...

Would highly recommend it, seems like quite good quality and does exactly what I want. Lights up at 8w for 1 minute at dusk, then drops to 2w which is enough to light up the porch area of our front door. If the pir detects movement it ramps back up to 8w for 1 minute then dims down to 2w again.

+1 for P-Lux hi-lo lights. Good quality kit thumbup

SCL Direct has a broader range of these lights than Toolstation. P-Lux makes the best outdoor lights I've tried. Highly recommended.

I've only found issues in fairly shady spots, ideally they should make one with an adjustable lux sensor but I don't think they do

Remote sensors aren't expensive, or for aesthetics use a build in-: http://www.lightupuk.co.uk/sensors-and-photocells/...
