Morning all,
We have a mains pressure heating/water system - in general it works great!
However: we have what looks like a corrosion issue near the immersion heater on the sylinder: see picture (sorry about the 90 degree turn...looks fine on my computer before uploading):

We have central heating care with a 'major provider', and had mentioned this over the past 2 or 3 annual service visits. Each time the engineer has said "that is fine".
We had another plumber in for other work: he took one look and said "blimey, that looks dangerous - I wouldn't want to live with that, you need to get the cylinder replaced". We kind of agree: it doesn't look great.

The Major Provider sent an engineer yesterday who again said he thought it was okay but took pictures to send to their insurers. I can sense a response coming back that may abdicate responsibility (I hope I am wrong!). After the first phone call where the person was already talking about T's & C's that may invalidate any work, I am already NOT impressed with them.

So: what do any central heating experts here think? absoutely fine or not good & needs a new cylinder?

The bubbling and dribbles have, I am sure, got worse over recent years....although naturally I have no pictures previously to prove it (my bad...)

Thanks!

Most likely it's just the seal between the immersion heater and the cylinder that got a slight weep. Not a big job to remove clean up and refit with a new seal.

I have seen pin holing once on the cylinder boss which was easily rectified with a little soldering,.

Looks more gravity and unvented. Anyway, any leaks never great, so I'd have wanted the leak sorting in the first place, surely that's what the cover is for?

It may remove and clean up fine. That would be an easy first step.

Not at all what I was expecting. When I saw the title of the thread was anticipating something like this
