I am looking for a plunge router to finish some floor boards which I am going to use for skirting and then use for other bits and pieces and projects I have in mind. How on earth do you choose,is one better than the other are some makes better than others, most of my stuff is Bosch blue but don't really have a brand loyalty as most of it has been bought by my wife as presents and bribes to get jobs done.

1/2 inch with a 1/4 adaptor. They are all much of a muchness. I have a Ryobi, cheap but does a good job.

This is ^^^^^ basically true and almost correct, other than get an 1/2 router with an 8mm adapter is the way to go. ........ 1/4 inch is sooooooo 1990s biggrin

I like (and use) the hitachi one. Whichever one you decide, spend the money and it will last you a lifetime.

Remember the two most important things about a router. 1. Can you buy alll the accessories you may require if needed and easily....... 2. Ergonomics whilst using it. There is actually a third and that is adjustable speed, but I'd assume all would come with that as standard, if not walk away.

This is basically all you need to know. Forget the rest like which make yada yada is the best, it means little, well unless it comes down to length of warranty. smile

Make sure it comes with, or you can get a 30mm guide bush. This is what Trend use for all of their jigs - worktops, locks etc.
