I'm in the market for a new trolley jack. I was looking at the Clarke CTJ1250A, mainly cos it's light and should have adequate lift for what I'll be using it with.

The other one I'm looking at is the BAHCO BHA1500, it's rated to lift a bit more which could be handy but it's a good 80 quid or so more expensive than the Clarke.

For what it's worth - I own a 2001 Audi A3 which is mostly stripped out, and a 1997 2.8v6 quattro A4 which is fully stripped but has full cage in. Both of which are rather low may I ad! What other options are out there?

Any input appreciated, thanks in advance!

The Arcan Aluminum jack from Costco.

Very low saddle height, cheap and very well made.

Don't buy the Sealey equivalent. Crap. Needs quite a bit of pressure on the handle which makes it awkward in tight spaces.

That's it.

About the right price too. Had one for a few years and I much prefer it to the two Sealey ones I have. The handle of the all ally sealey is better, but I need to really swing on it to, er, get it up.

Nice one...

The only potential problem I see is although it's 100mm entry, it only stays at 100mm for a few inches... I'm not sure I'd get that on the subframe of either of my cars :-/

I have one of these also:

And that get under all the low stuff I have used it for. A Clio V6, various 911's at RS ride heights and it gets under the chassis rails with room enough for rubber pucks.

They're as low as I've seen other than:

You can buy it from Costco with delivery without needing to be a Costco member. Some of the tool chests are tempting too.

Cheers, I had actually seen that also... The other thing is my Dad is buying it for me for doing the gearbox on my Mums Quattro TT (which I'm really not looking forward to!), so I could probably get away with spending a bit more.

Also found this Motamec one which looks pretty good. About the same weight and size as the Arcan but rated to 2.5t. . . Also looks quite cool for what it's worth lol

My Costco Arcan didn't last very long, maybe I was just unlucky ? Have just bought a 2.5 tonne ally jack from SGS, it's built like a tank so will hopefully last a good while.

What happened to it, seals go?

Just looking at the SGS 2.5t compared to the Motamec 2.5, the Motamec is a little longer and has a more gradual incline on it. Meaning it should get a little further under low cars.

Not to mention it's lower entry point, higher max, lighter weight and less pumps to full height... As you can tell I'm pretty much sold on the Montamec at this point lol

The SGS is a decent price point though, and with a 2 year warranty you can't grumble... If I were paying for it myself it would be a consideration for sure!

Thanks for your help gents. Unless someone drops an absolute bomb on this post, think I'll be ordering a Motamec v.soon!

That does look like a decent bit of kit, would have probably gone with it myself had I known about it before buying the SGS

Ordered it about 10pm Tuesday evening, turned up 10am this morning... Can't argue with that!

It really does look like a great bit of engineering from the offset. Kind of reminds me of something from robot wars!? ha ha!

I have to admit though, still doesn't reach the subframe on my A3 before fouling the sill. . . That being said, I think anything that would, would be way too big and heavy for me to keep in the garage and cart about to tack/drift days. So all round very pleased!

Thanks for your input guys
