Hi

I see the threads RE Brexit but I thought I'd ask this seperately...

I have a stocks and shares ISA with the Alliance Trust (I can't remember exactly where the investments are now). Following the vote to leave, what's the best strategy? I'm kickign myself I didn't transfer the funds but intend to go home and see the damage!

Thanks

Sit tight and wait for it to recover, I'd say. Cheer yourself up by saying it's only a loss when you sell it.

Are you in the same boat?

I guess this is similar to the China situation last year maybe? (Where I raised the same concern).

There might not be any damage or very little, the market as a whole has recovered strongly this afternoon.

One of my shares was down about 15/16% this morning and is now actually UP 1% as an example.

It was a great buying opportunity this morning, you almost couldn't go wrong first thing this morning!

Up 1% to the state pre this morning or just up 1% after the dip?

What's the best way to generally track this stock market performance overall? Any good sites/charts?!

Thanks!

Up 1% on yesterdays close. So it was -16% this morning and now it's +1%, a lot of the stocks i have and keep an eye on are similar. The biggest casualties are the banking/property sector which was to be expected.

If it's just basic info you're wanting to track i just use IG index app on my phone. That gives live prices, watchlists, basic charts, alerts, etc.

Was that the kind of information you were looking for?

I've been in this boat several times. I used to get cross with the professionals I'd trusted to manage things for me (on the basis they knew more than me); now I don't bother any more because, actually really, they don't. When markets fall the herd panics. The contrarian goes 'yippee', invests, and voila, prices gradually return to normal. That's an over-simplification but you get the idea.

Yesterday I thought I'd got it slightly right, this morning I thought I'd got it very wrong, and in fact it didn't make much difference.

The UK market fell less than most others, the French got creamed.
As did my Dollar denominated European Fund, down 10.9%

Overall I'm still up YTD, but only just.
