A relative of mine has apparently bought into some form of distribution model with the understanding that it’s going to make him wealthy. Right away I assume pyramid scam. But I can’t find ANYTHING on the guy or the scheme.

I know he needed ~£5k as he approached me for the money and I refused as he couldn’t show me what he wanted it for, how the scheme works or what his ROI was going to be. He couldn’t even tell me what was in it for me or how he could pay me back. He then sold his car and a few other things to generate £5k and now he’s sharing all of this ‘stuff’ on social media about being open-minded, how you can experience the world from a different perspective, how you can manifest a dream lifestyle with just an internet connection and a laptop.

I would happily share the link but it looks like it’s a personalised web address connected with him and I’d rather shield his identity.

The names I’ve got so far are:
Nathaniel Eismann? (not sure how its spelt)
Eric Carlson
Julian Sherman

Apparently you have to sign up for a ‘free webinar’ which I’ve done. I plan to watch this thing to try and gain more understanding. It starts in 8 hours. So far EVERYONE has told him it’s a scam but he’s believing nobody. I assume he might listen to me seeing as how he approached me for investment but who knows.

Anyone heard of this before or know what it is?

Exactly, but I want to know if anyone knows what it is - what is the scam? and if anyone has any evidence to prove this so I can show him and get him out before he wastes any more money on it.

Out of curiosity I Googled it and your relative must have bought it hook, line and sinker to be in for £5K. It seems to be a murky business of pyramid selling licensing stuff to then sell on to further people from what I gather.

If your relative really cannot see this is a mistake from some cursory Internet searching, I'm not sure what else to suggest.

"Pay us £5,000 and we'll spout some generic scripted nonsense about being successful that will never make you your money back".

The evident will be when they're still £5k out of pocket however many years down the line.

They're complete snake oil.

ETA: It's the same with these pyramid schemes that all the aspiring entrepreneurs / stay at home mums have all over social media. Beauty products, cleansing fruit drinks, aromatherapy chai tea. They're pressured into buying up stock then selling it on to equally pressured friends and family. The person that recruited them and their friends gets a kick back, and the person above them gets a kick back.. The only people making serious money from these brands are those at the top, everyone else just makes pocket change which isn't even worth the time and effort required to make it work.

Depends how early on the pyramid he is in all fairness

These systems do make some people very wealthy but you have to be in very early otherwise it's just a big money pit and unlikely to get you any ROI

I think the £5k was buying some product of some sort? I think its Enagic Kagen Water or something but not entirely sure.

Oh yeah they've got it made. My sister was part of one of these things. To be fair, she made a couple £hundred over a year or so, but that was mainly through guilt purchases by friends and family (myself included) and non-stop Facebook posting and pre-buying of stock.

The people doing the presentations she went to were all full of hope and glamour - new Bentleys parked outside the venue, Cartier watches, holidays in the Bahamas.. I can see how it suckers people in..

The easiest way is if you put the name you are searching and then scam, it will show you if it is a scam.

This guy seems to be associated with project awol, another scam.

Of course a few people make money. It's just the ones that make money are doing so knowing that they are shafting everyone else down the line. I would say it's a very murky legal area, pyramid selling is illegal, so they dress it up as selling goods (tat which people don't want to other people who don't want it who then have to try and sell it, and so on). Perhaps not technically illegal, but definitely immoral. The people who start these schemes are scum with no regard for the impact it will have on those who are sucked in.

Years ago a (former) friend invited me and and the OH over for dinner, but ended up with his stepdad giving us a 3hr presentation along these lines. Was very cagey about what it involved, only that if you'll sign up and then get your friends and family to sign up you'll all get rich very quickly. Not surprisingly we haven't seen that 'friend' since.

So it's like the vacuum cleaner sales 'scams'

Very expensive gadgets that don't do anything significantly better than the more normal units, but if they are selling actual goods and they are acting as an agent, it's not actually a scam in the 'it's illegal' sense ?

So water ionisers for 2k to 5k !

Hope they have a sodium salt filter before the electrolyiser or you will be drinking weak bleach smile

From their web site

Direct Sales Business Model
The Wave of the Future!
The Enagic Corporation feels that the personal nature of a direct sales marketing business model, utilizing hard-working, independent distributors is the best way to get the word out about Kangen Water®.

I did that one when I was 18, well - passed the interview and did 2 days 'training'. The whole thing reaked of shadyness, mainly hard selling to the elderly, so I quit.

Yep. It'll obviously be pre-recorded but his sister was saying that he was actually in a webinar. I've done some deeper digging and questioned my cousin but he's obviously just replying off a script.

I decided not to ask anything else, I sent him the articles I found and said I don't want to hear anymore about it so we'll see. Yet to have a reply from him tho!

SO obviously a scam, I just hope once his first paycheque doesn't come he'll realise he's been scammed.

Obvious to us. Not so obvious to someone who wants to believe.

Ugh I'm sick of seeing these scams.. I mean schemes on Facebook. I have a "friend" (associate?) who has gone head first into what seems to be a pyramid version of Avon. She sells "beauty" products but recruits a "tribe" to also sell it. Now my goddamn News Feed is filled inspirational quotes & pictures of her at these seminars & her gushing about the people that run the scams.

Tellingly after she live streamed a seminar recently one of her tribe said she was disappointed at how expensive the product was. Not 5 minutes later her comments were gone!

It all seems to be selling a laptop lifestyle to desperate single mums who have grand ideas of earning thousands each month.
