One for the sparkies on here. Recently brought a lamp to go onto the wall and decided to fit it myself, as how hard can it be right? Took off the old fitting which was a loop fitting with two sets of wire coming out of the wall. My question is how can I connect this to a simple block as what came with the light fitting as I'm a little stumped (Which to be fair doesn't take much with me and electrics!!)

You didn't take a picture or mark the cables from the previous fitting???

One set of red and black should be live and neutral, the other pair will go to the switch.

Not hard to determine which is which with a tester.

So, live goes to one of the switch wires, then the return of the switch pair becomes your 'switched live', connect this and the neutral to the light.

Unless... One of the pair is already a switched live and neutral, and the other is a loop on to another wall light?? Hard to say with complete certainty with out seeing the whole room or testing wires.

Sadly no before pictures, as the previous owners of the house had a bodge it attitude to DIY so some of the wires were already out from the old fitting, hence why the light fitting has been strictly out of action since we moved in.

Room is a downstairs toilet so thats the only bit of wiring in place.
